Fishman's prompt response to my Tele pup question:

"We are looking into doing a Tele version of the pickup. It may be several months before one is designed though.
If you have any other questions, let me know."

This was early in November.

Yeah, no.
I know Greg Koch is pimping them for Fishman, and I love Greg Koch, but I don't want active pickups.

Who is Greg Koch ?
http://www.gregkoch.com/

Besides playing and recording, he seems to get a lot of gigs demoing stuff. Monster chops, is all I can say. Hilarious about the first (pick a number) times, but the shtick wears thin after a while, I think. Still, his demos are great, though he's no doubt one of those guys that could make anything sound better than most.

The switch will make the anyone suspicious of anything but the standard 3-way Tele shudder, and the battery is always a question, but at least on the Tele it's a battery pack (Strat install video shows a 9v clip) that can be charged via USB. Since you can have a USB pack sitting in your case for emergencies, I wouldn't be bothered with that at all. It's interesting, but $350 is not experimenting kind of money.

Can any interested buyer of the Fishman Fluence set state for me what it is about these things that appeals to you? For the life of me, I can't figure out why you'd want to kill 9 volt batteries in order to get the same tone you get from vintage style pickups. Word is that they chew through 9 volts at an even higher clip than EMGs.

I believe they only need to be charged every 300 hours or something ridiculous like that. actually here's something from their website.

VOICE 1:

White-Guard
Open and airy, the sound of Nashville and Bakersfield, chicken pickin', and the big strum.

VOICE 2:

Black-Guard
Fat & punch, searing sustain. Undeniable Tele muscle.

BATTERY:

Rechargeable battery pack

BATTERY LIFE:

250 hours

So you want to deal with batteries for the sake of two EQ profiles and less noise?

I guess if you really hate EMF noise then it might sound better than a stacked humbuckers (or it might not I wouldn't know), but as far as dual voicings, there's an unlimited number of options, from tapping, to splitting, to parallel capacitors, even just messing with your tone knob.

I guess I'm waiting for a post that comes in the form of

"thank God I got my Fishman Fluence pickups, now I can finally ____________ without having to _________________, and I don't even care if I have to worry about recharging my guitar before a gig."

The rechargeable battery is part of the system and is included. It's mounted on the control plate.
