On the spur of the moment I decided to go fishing last night at about an hour before sundown. Drove down to the mighty Mizzou to my fave spot and cast in with nightcrawlers I caught a couple of nights before.
Since I started out in a hurry I had to use one of the old Penn reels that would be good for surf fishing with little current but not-so-great for the fast river current. I also needed heavier weights.
Still, I did manage to catch a 1/2 lb. channel cat which was too small to keep. I want one about 5 to 10 pounds so I can smoke it and make Empanadas.
I went out last night and picked up over a dozen more crawlers and will try again tonight better equipped.

Fishing. I have not been fishing in, oh, 40 years?

Good luck - I bet the smoked fish is wonderful.

Nice. We catch a fair amount of cats here and smoke a lot of trout, but I’ve never tried smoked catfish! I’ll have to give it a go sometime.

Spent Memorial Day at the lake, quarantining in luxury.

Off the dock, my best Keuka Lake Largemouth to date.

EDIT** for the record, 5.76 pounds, and I took three pics and released her. I'm
hoping for 7 pounds next summer.

Went out to my favorite neighborhood pond between thunderstorms last evening. Using weenie slices, I caught three channel cats in quick order, and noticed a couple of swirls near the bank where I was fishing. Put a mini Rapala on, cast it over there, twitched it twice, and hooked a 4.5 lb bass. THAT was fun!

I miss fishing. Haven't done much for years. I lived and breathed freshwater fishing as a kid. Salt water spoiled me, but I've been hankering...Last fishing of any extent was on the sailboat 20 years ago.

Its been almost 50 years since I have been fishing.
In one day I managed to run some sharp spiney thing on the fish I had caught under my thumbnail that hurt like hell.
Next I had a hook embed itself in my cheek under my right eye.
That wasn't too bad,the bad thing was on the way to the emergency room my dad mistakenly explained to me how they would remove the hook..

Never again would I pick up a fishing pole..

Nice bass!! I’ve only caught a few small ones so far this year but last year I caught these two nice ones. Both weighed in at 6 lbs. 1 oz.

Just got my rod license... fishing is now allowed again in UK.

Got one of the best Salmon pools in UK about 100 yards away. We have had a long dry spell and the Sea Trout are waiting en-masse to come upstream with the first decent rain.

I fish fly usually but spinning is nice here too.

I need to try weenie slices but crawlers are cheaper.

I ate Mahi-mahi sandwiches from the lunch trucks on the docks in Honolulu.

I only fished off the bank, as a kid and later as a young dad in the 1980's

Just small stuff, Biuegill, Perch, Carp, small Largemouth Bass, and a few Smallmouth in the Shenandoah River.

Mosrky just worm and bobber stuff, Zebco gear! Occasionally lures.

But I LOVED it! We should revisit

Nice bull Dorado....mahi mahi....dolphin fish...depending where you caught it. Beautiful when coming to the surface and they lose their color fast. I've caught a few.

My buddy just asked me today if I wanted to go. He has a small boat and we are going out around Catalina Island. I want to go to the back side and chase white sea bass....

Went out again this evening. Using weenie slices, caught 12 catfish- 10 channel cat, 4 between 2 and 3lb, and 2 yellow cat, little but fun on ultralight tackle.
