It’s almost time for somebody’s first electric guitar. Started on an acoustic.

This is a squier with a chunky neck and passed my standards for a good candidate after truing up the neck pocket and frets and roughing in the nut and setup.
I might do some inlay work.

I’ll be doin a scalloped bone nut.

    The chunker at first was
    .887“ 1st fret

    .94“ 12th fret.

    Now it’s
First 3 frets are .88 rest is 90.
Eventually the volute will be similar to a Japanese squier.

My buddy taught me a good way to do the volute.

I detailed a Squire Bullet for my son. Paying attention to the bridge made a huge difference. Lap the block to the bridge. Hold it up to the light so you know there are no gaps between the block and bridge. It is amazing how you can increase the acoustic sustain of a Strat by getting this right. I also added a piece of metal to the block. I used super glue to attach it. Anyway more mass and increasing the bridge to block surface contact area did wonders.

I love these good uncle stories - other than replacing the wiring harness to his P-bass copy, all I've given my nephew is food & money.
    Peace - Deeve

Pink for your niece is good.

I built this pink Tele Thinline for my niece. Now she plays bass in a local punk band.

So I heard pink might not be her style, just in case I have a rare green squier affinity body.

Also just got this shop cat from wally world it’s really good.

    Good tip!
I’m putting a MIM bridge on there because this one has the bad 2 1/8” spacing so the saddles tilt and have a gap.

We’re at .865” to .890” and the frets are only .042” tall, and the setup will be .008”-.046” strings so I’m happy with the thickness.

The two ‘X’s’ you see is the heel hump being removed and is farther now for more access to the upper frets, just n case she wants to shred.
    It looks like there’s a low spot but there isn’t, it’s level. A428F2F7-A9FD-4C21-8FD6-D4DF2AE82558.jpeg D0A03588-54BB-40FF-9DD6-011DF1C94BED.jpeg 3B61498B-2760-4BB3-847B-15DFF29B543C.jpeg 1250C4C5-4911-4592-BF01-5EBF04FB9FA4.jpeg

So I lowered the hump more and it looks like I need to lower it a lot more. The sides will be trimmed so the little divots don’t effect the levelness.

    Here’s how it’s ganna look:

    Fortunate niece!

If she's playing an acoustic now --- are you sure you need to go all the way down to .008" gauge strings for her? Especially since obviously the set-up will be perfect. Sry - None uh my business - just a passing thought from the peanut gallery :)

Some progress. I have another guitar that might be a better candidate though.

You are not adopting are ya? I am like a niece, except with more facial (and elsewhere) hair, and best of all, I can live with a chunky neck on any free guitars you build me.
