I always found first dates to be quite interesting. Sometimes they worked out and sometimes they were a debacle.

I met a lady through a friend, exchanged numbers, talked and decided to go out to the Lone Star Oyster Bar in N Richland Hills. Knowing she liked darts I brought a couple of sets along.

She was a great shooter and an even greater beer drinker. After a couple of hours playing darts she was trashed. I was starving but there was no way she was capable of food. Walking was an issue for her.

Took her to her house, she threw up twice before getting her to her front door. I finally hit her to the sofa, placed her on her side, stuffed pillows and cushions around her so, hopefully, she wouldn’t aspirate, and left.

She called me the next day asking what happen. I explained it to her and that I was glad she was ok. She said she would like to see me again and she would make it up to me. I thanked her and said we weren’t a good match and wished her a happy life.
That’s the last I heard from her

I've gone on a few first dates in the last 8-9 years. Mostly people from online dating sites. At this stage in life and in a college town I'm coming across a lot of graduates and grad students whose whole adult lives were academia and world tourism. They're kinda looking for a guy who is the same, and unfortunately I am not.

I don't blame them. To those ladies I'm broke and uneducated and probably no fun (even though I find them fascinating). They're all usually very nice and polite but it rarely goes beyond the first date.

On the other end I have run across ladies who are probably more broke and uneducated than me, often with bad habits or bad attitudes towards life. I'm always nice and polite to them, but it rarely goes beyond the first date.

In the middle there are a number of recent divorcees, often with children. I would expect these ladies to be grown up, down to earth, and past any stupid b.s. when it comes to dating and romance. However, I have a whole lot of mixed feelings about being with someone and their kids from someone else.

Sometimes I think my romantic years are behind me.

My mom's basement.
At least there seems to be an adventure aspect to it...so you have that.

Excellent!
Thank you. It was all an unexpected adventure and it still is. I was pretty down on dating or thinking I'd be anything but mostly alone before we met. It has all been in mind with the kids around this weekend and my wife still being her strong and special self.

I actually have it on my dating profile that after spending x years of my life looking after other peoples kids in relationships that I do not want to go into a LTR in which kids are involved and at my age that probably narrows the pool down to about 3% of the female population of the sites.

It sounds like that situation was a little different than the normal, but that is sort of an old-school standard.

Often when you go on a first date you'll find that a woman will say "I'm going out with some friends later" very early on. That's just to set up an escape plan so that if she doesn't like the way the date is going she can pull that back out and leave.

Very few women will leave a date that they're actually enjoying. So you can follow up after that exit but odds of success are one in 1000. It's usually best to just let it go.
I'm thinking back to that date and she told me that was her small city flat for work but that she had a converted farm and the partner who had recently left her for a woman who I know was living in the yard in a trailer after being ejected from the main house by her.

Yeah, I did too and got no bites ;-)

Some women will straight up say "I'm looking for someone to be a father to my children". Others will say "I'm not looking for someone to be a father to my children". The latter group might even believe themselves when they say that, but IME they most definitely ARE looking for someone to be the perfect father to their children. Especially if they dislike their ex. In some cases they look to you to be the opposite of what they think of their ex, and to be the one to right his perceived wrongs.

And regardless of what Mom says or thinks, the kids are definitely looking for a father figure. Sometimes even adult kids too.

None of it is anyone's fault, but it can lead to disappointment for everyone.

The Mrs Floor and I were introduced by a mutual friend at a show (Game Theory at 688 Atlanta, 11/07/86) and she was on a date with some dork who smelled like patchouli. I called her one day and we planned to meet. She was a booker for some venues and for some reason had to go to Rome, Ga for a meeting so our first date was actually 3 hours in a car. That was a pretty good thing because we had a chance to talk without distraction.
Ahhh... The 688, brings back memories. Some good...

I once took a girl to a Paul Simon concert as a first date. After a few months she turned out to be psychotic, and what I thought was my heart breaking was actually fate saving me from a lifetime of unrelenting misery.
Been with Mrs. Roadie for 32 years now. Our "1st date" was me catching a ride with her to Iowa City with no thought of ever having a relationship with her.
