I was talking to our singer’s boyfriend at our gig on Sat and he told me that they were going to Chattanooga for 4 or 5 days, beginning this Thu, and on Friday they were going to see Tommy Emanuel. Of course I immediately reacted with something like “Oh wow!”, and told him how amazing Tommy is. Her bf is a doctor and a hobby musician, so I’m sure expected that response. He then asked “Do you think you’d like to see him sometime” and I said “Yeah, someday, I hope”.

Well, at rehearsal last night the singer said if we (my gf and I) would like to go they have 2 extra tickets. So we’re going to fly down to Chattanooga on Friday and stay downtown - a couple blocks from the theater, where the other two are staying - overnight and head back home on Sat. This will be quite an expensive date night!

I guess there is a meet-and-greet with Tommy before or after the show (can’t recall), but I’ll have to get the specifics on that. As much as I’d love to say hi, I don’t want to stand in a line for an hour to do that.

Needless to say, I am pumped for this show!

I've told this story before but it's worth repeating. Back on my 20s some friends and I went to see the Emmanuel Brothers (Tommy and Phil) at a club in Sydney. We were running a bit late getting there, due to chemical enhancements being involved, so we tried to be inconspicuous when we got there by sitting at a side table. The Emmanuel Brothers saw us enter and we're having nothing of it and called us out saying, "Come and sit in the middle boys it hurts in both ears."

Enjoy your show and remember to sit in the middle.

I don’t know anything about the theater, the ticketing or where we might be sitting. I hope the good doctor got primo seats. But I’ll enjoy it regardless of where we sit. 🙂

It's an unforgettable experience seeing "Tony Enamel".
I had the pleasure back in 2013 when he played in Edinburgh alongside Martin Taylor.
I wouldn't mind queueing for an hour to say "Hi", I've queued for far longer to do far less desirable things.

You’ll love it!

I used to see him quite a bit with his brother Phil in Sydney back in the mid 80s. A truly amazing player and nice bloke.

I’ve seen him solo a couple of times in the last decade. He always delivers - definitely one of the guitar greats.

That sounds like just about every time I saw the Emmanuel Brothers in the 80s.

They’d often play late at The Basement and I’d normally have been out somewhere else beforehand.

I don't know how I got the double quote in post #8, but... there it is 🤔. It happened while trying to post using my phone. I'll blame it on Steve Jobs!

Saw him a few months ago and I'm fairly certain he's not human.
Some sort of advanced alien race for sure!

I always wondered if he was like the Yngwie of acoustic and and after a half an hour of jamming
you would get bored by all the riffing.

No, I won't be bored :). I've watched a lot of YouTube videos from live concerts and he does a lot more that just fast riffs. The only thing I saw him do that was kind of hard to digest was his tribute to the Aborigine people. It was mostly sound effects. That's probably the only thing I saw him do that was sort of meh.

I should have but did not take note of the name of the warmup player the second time I went to see Tommy. The warmup player was a very good finger picker, way beyond what most even professional guitarist one sees playing live are. When Tommy came out though, it was like there was a light shining down from heaven illuminating him and his playing!

At some point he played "The Duke" a song he composed honoring John Wayne. I had heard him play it on a video but when I heard him live, it was a whole different thing. If you get tired of listening to Tommy, you've probably either gone deaf, or you are dead. ;)

I missed Tommy's show by about 4 hours when we went to Boone NC in October, I was so miffed. However, I love geography because I am constantly surprised. I looked up Chattanooga, thinking for sure it was southern TN and bordering either AR or MS. Well, I was partly right, but it is actually a stone's throw from GA. I may have been confusing Chattanooga with Memphis. Anyway, my brain cannot comprehend that a decent portion of TN borders GA. I have in my mind that GA is firmly SE but the state extends westward more than one would think. This has been your daily episode of StevesBoogie geography trivia!
