had this pedal for a while and liked it into my old vox for some bluesy crunch but before the summer I joined a heavier post rock/ stoner rock band and I need higher gain so I have been using a wampler plexidrive and hardwire valve distortion, sometimes stacked.

I have had good results but I tought my hardwire mixed with the marshall at the rehearsal space sounded almost too modern and metal gain sounding but at gigs with my traynor YGL2 30 watt Class A combo it sounds good. Just for the hell of it I took the hardwire off my board and stuck on the boss 59 bassman pedal to see if I could coax some more gritty amp on the verge of exploding tones and the bassman pedal stacked with my plexidrive creates this tone so similar to the song Sick Sick Sick by Queens of the stone age...

but I also love the hardwire but only have so much room on my small tweed pedalboard so I can sacrifice it for now till I get my visual sound angry fuzz for Christmas..

anyone use the Boss FBM-1 or have opinions ?

Actaul Fender Bassmans are pretty much THE sound of early rock 'n' roll, and a good one today eats pedals for breakfast, lunch and dinner so I'm not surprised the Plexidrive played well with the FBM-1.

IIRC, the Hardwire will definitely get more JCM800 tones compared to the Plexi vibe the Wampler is shooting for. Not saying the Wampler can't get 800 rock tones, but the Hardwire is well... more hard-wired to get more gain and more \m/.

An open mic I did provided one to acoustic players as a sort of beefed-up DI box. I used it with my Tele and pedals into the FBM-1, then the output of the FBM-1 went into the FX loop return of a Blackstar HT20 combo one of the other guitarists was using that night. Very convincing Bassman setup that night...

Really haven't got to grips with mine yet. I got it & the '63 reverb pedal cheap at a closing down sale. It's not that I dislike the FBM-1, I just haven't found the best way to use it yet. The FRV-1 on the other hand is my absolute favorite.
