No, they just made me a big d@#k..
I don’t need pills for that…

Looking back, which events were 'gotten wrong'?…Teddy Kennedy's car wreck…
Ya see, everybody got that one wrong!

Ol’ Ted was trying to launch his new business:
Chappaquiddick Island Driving School and Swimming Lessons

He just never recovered from the bad publicity of the grand opening of the venture…

now, imagine things had gone differently... the story would have come out.. eventually... for a lot of people... it was luck that saved them from a tragic event...

as I recall (I was almost 19 at the time)... it was all broadcast live. everywhere, all over the world people watched and listened in real time for about a week as it happened. anybody ever find a problem? no? all the telemetry was live.... 24hrs a day.... all over the world.... for a week. think about that

the landing site has been overflown and photographed by at least 3 other nations

if you still think it was fake, roll up the tinfoil from your hat.... roll it into a ball.... and poke it..... (somewhere). you are a danger to society

we all really need to use the words “kook” “lousy” and especially “crummy” maybe a little more .
Here in Plundertown a "crummy" was the beat-to-hell but often surprisingly new vehicle--a van or a crew cab--that picked up loggers before dawn and dropped them off at the end of their work day. Not so many around now, loggers or crummies

Buzz Aldrin's second best landing...
View attachment 1396705
If you've never seen it, this is the result of Buzz Aldrin's constantly being harassed by an idiot. He's 72 here and it looks like the guy's being hit by a pro boxer.

I remember this well, love re-reading about it now and again.

I met him once about a dozen years prior when I was a little E-1 at Chanute AFB in Illinois. He could not have been more gracious, probably shook 500 Airman Basic hands that day and was warm with all of us.

Good on you Buzz.

It's one of my favorite things ever that Buzz did this. I just love his righteous indignance in/at the face of a moron. He instantly became the coolest astronaut up to now in that moment.

Hey guys, the post was meant to acknowledge a great achievement. Let's not get it deleted or locked with el toro poo poo.

I'm not tryna beat you up, but you literally framed the thread with "they landed in Arizona, uuuhh the Moon" which invited some people to put on their tin foil hats. Framing is important.

"Joni Mitchell is the greatest WOMAN songwriter, too bad she wasn't a man or she would have been better. No I'm kidding she's actually great, lol."

"Clapton is almost as good as SRV; no, just kidding, I actually think Clapton is the best."

By serving up a weird take on it, you invite people on the margin who agree with that weird take to weigh in with their agreement.

*FWIW, I love Joni and Eric and will not discuss the stupid and deliberately infuriating statements above with anyone*

they did make a movie about the story in a lighthearted way.. The Dish,..

Unless you’re talking about the mob in its heyday, or you systematically kill anyone with knowledge of the “event“, conspiracy theories are the product of idle minds*.

Any time a “plan“ gets beyond two or three people – that’s it.

Blah, blah blah, blab blab blab.

We’ve all been a part of surprise parties that weren’t “surprises”. That’s the tiny tip of the iceberg.

“Obviously your confidentialitiy is of the upmost importance…” (repeat 300x)

* But what about …and how do you explain…when this comes out fully…🙄
They can’t even keep their affairs secret. It’s wishful thinking to assign that level of competence in deception to politicians and officials.

I get your point but, taken within the context of my original post, I think my attempt at humor was balanced by:
"We take it for granted now but it was an incredible feat for its time. Hell, actually for the current time as well. They landed in a bucket of bolts with an onboard computer that only had a numeric keypad!!!
The amount of technology that was developed during the space program was incredible. It offers a lesson for us today that seems to be poorly understood."

The people who want to take potshots at America's achievement and denigrate it with stupid conspiracies would have come forward regardless of my thread title.

That’s the way I read it.

Well, that's the way I read it because I agree with Burnt:s post about the magnitude of the achievement, but we're talking about the thread title here.

Kinda of a mixed message, tho, to open the door and invite the fringe in and then complain that the fringe came in. At the end of the day, they probably would've busted in anyway, but....

I read the title with the typical humor that runs through the TDPRI.

The “fringe” more than likely would have done their thing.

You can’t stop stupid but gaff tape can sure make it a lot quieter*

* said with humor and very seriously

Hate is such a strong word, should be reserved for people truly deserving of the emotion, not to describe someone whose music, or personality, you don’t particularly like or, indeed, dislike intensely.
