I like CAR too, and Dakota, and Torino, and Hot Rod, and Mystic, and....well...I just just like red, especially red Teles. ;)

I've always seen Muddy's actual Tele as either being damn close to Dakota if it wasn't actually.

    Fiesta ?

There was a time when the only Fiesta guitars you'd see were the faded Fiesta that were sometimes pinky-orange-salmon colored.

Fender was never great about being consistent with their colors.

I've got a LPB MIM Tele from '96 that is lighter than a lot of the really deep blue ones I've seen but is also miles away from Agave which some people mistake it for.

Never mind me. I'm not good with color comparisons, especially if they're not in front of me. Brain thing. Just tell me what color it is, and that's what I'll call it. :)

My CAR PV64 could easily be called "Ruby Red". Very deep and rich.

I don't know about pink, mine definitely leans towards orange, which I guess is normal for Fiesta. CAR is great too, I was all in for the CAR before the Fiesta became available. Congrats George, let's see some pics when you get it, not enough red '64's on this site, too many blonde! Nothing against the blonde, it's just nice to see something different ;)

I just scrolled up this page quickly. So much red...

I thought, what did Muddy say to the tech just before going on stage?

Hand me that Fiesta Red. No no, the slightly pink one. Oh wait, I played that last night... How about the shiny one that looks like an apple?

I think it was more like: Hand me the red one. No, the other red one. Yeah, that's the one.

The only fiesta red fender I ever saw looked awfully pink.

I guess it's widely recognized that Muddy had his 50's Blonde Tele refinished in a 60's Candy Apple Red. He also had the 1-piece maple neck replaced with a rosewood fretboard neck.

Some of the color footage of Muddy indicates that his Tele was finished in a metallic red color, which would be CAR - probably with a gold metallic undercoat, as it has faded to a brownish red.

I had a 1965 Dakota Red Tele myself, and that one had a much more vivid red color than Muddy's.

    Muddy's was CAR.

Here's one of those Custom Shop reissues from the 90's or early 2000's, I believe:

btw, I love red Fenders, in general, but to me, fiesta was always more of a Strat color, LOL! My favorite red is still dakota red, especially on a Tele!

Quick and dirty pic. Of all my axes I actually think and it's early days admittedly, that this will become my go to guitar.

Looks great! Mine is definitely the one I pick up first right now. Probably still in the honeymoon period as I've only had it a month, but it's on the hook closest to where I sit in my home office. That's usually reserved for my No.1.

Loving the Lucille pic in your album too

This may have already been posted in another thread but Wildwood had one on its site for about an hour or two before it was sold. I wondered who, if anyone, from TDPRI snagged it. Lucky dude

Here is a picture which had stated in the caption section that Eric's tele was Dakota Red and that he was playing it through a Vox AC30, but obviously, the picture has either faded or the computer coloring is off.

For those who know the story, Eric Clapton played his Dakota Red Telecaster through a Vox AC30.

Thanks for this informational discussion! Now that I've compared them, they're like night and day.

Personally I'd go with Dakota, then CAR, then Fiesta.

Eric's Tele actually belonged to the Yardbirds' management. Eric didn't have his own guitar at the time - at least not a Fender. Jeff Beck, who inherited it, said it was a terrible guitar. And it was Fiesta Red, not Dakota. As earlier mentioned, I had a Dakota Red Tele at the same time, and the color was nothing like Eric's.
