    Koen,

    You've got to tell us.

How far east from the Mississippi do you live? ;)

Old tweed Deluxes are very primitive tech.

I never tried the low pass mod, but I added a few switches to try things out and then go back to stock.

I have a switchable 0.022uF coupling cap for the bright channel and a DPDT switch to put a 250pF bright cap across both volumes. That seems to clear up the mud for humbucker guitars (and my P-90s) - that plus my "Marshall" switch (2700 ohm and 0.68uF preamp cathode switch). I'm tempted to put a choke on a switch to try that for tightening things up.

The fatness and bass really make 5E3's perfect for single coil guitars, but sometimes to dark or muddy for humbuckers/P-90s... as usual I'd recommend putting any mods on a switch so you can go back to stock.

Yeah I have never been happy with buckers and my 5E3.

In fact I just noticed a strange thing about me.

Esquire or Single Coils the 5E3 is my go to.
Flying or Buckers the 2203 gets the call.

5E3's do sound pretty good with P90s to me but then again I always boost the front end to tighten up bass.
