Here's a 1975 Fender Super Twin. Weight is not desirable, but considering I only move it 3-4 times max a month it's not such a problem. Haven't played it outdoors but come summer watch out. With 6-6l6s, as you can imagine it has never let me down jamming in any situation. Straight up sings. YK8M1Ua.jpg

That was my first real amp back in the late 70s. Awesome tone and incredibly loud. If I played outside it could be heard for miles. Heavy is an understatement but I was young then. Enjoy it!

I hope I never find a killer deal on one of those. Because I'd probably like it!

Note that there were two versions of this amp. The first one, the Super Twin, did not have reverb. The Super Twin Reverb shown in the ad obviously has reverb...and is the second version. I have owned one of the STR’s.....great sound. It did the best plug and play SRV tone I have ever heard. Nugent was a user......he played SIX Super ?Twin Reverbs with a 2x15 Dual .showman cab plugged into each ext spkr jack.....1080 watts coming out of 24 speakers. He played a hollow body Gibson Byrdland...solid maple back and wides with a hand carved spruce top...through this rig. The stage was marked so that he knew where the ‘hot spots’ were and weren’t!!! Feedback control, anyone??

Don't look too hard, then. These amps are at the top of the "too heavy, too loud, too clean, not vintagey enough, and too hard to sell" list.

EDIT: There was a local guy selling off an STR that needed major repair and was non-working, I thought about for a project amp. I think it went sub $150. Not bad. But the thought of tube replacement was scary. That's a lot of tubes.

if it was not working, then imho it was worth less than $100. If I can’t hear loud sounds..even bad as long as they are loud....I consider the worst case scenario, which would be replacement of one or both transformers.

Right. Not sure what it eventually went for. But it was posted at ~$150 on CL for a few weeks before it disappeared. Apparently the seller had picked it up as a project amp, too. Generally not a good sign LOL. I ended up with some projects WAY more reasonable and manageable instead. Gonna be a while before I feel confident and MIF* enough to take on a big iron project like that.

I owned a Super Twin Reverb when I got back into bands about 20 years ago. I bought it as a starter amp because I couldn't afford a Twin for a while. It was ungodly heavy with the big square-frame Utahs and I replaced it with a Twin as quick as I could. Didn't realize until it was gone just how much better the SuperTwin sounded because of the Presence control. Wish I had it back.
