Just got my new AMS catalog. They are advertising a new Fender amp called the Steel King. 200 watts, SS, pedal steel amp. Anybody got any reviews? I am thinking of using one for regular tele spanking (I don't play steel). I'm thinking, really loud, and really clean.

Any input?

ya I agree, probably great twangy amp, I'm sure a lot of people around here would scoff at a SS amp, but I know the Redd has been known to play thru a peavy nashville 400. And the 15 is great with low spanking tele tones.

Well, to be honest, I would normally scoff at a solid state amp myself. But this looks very intriguing. 200 watts and a 15" speaker. If they did it right it might just kill. I'm thinking not only for twang, but for some cool jazz tones too. I'm wondering if it gets anywhere near mega-brute territory.

A good friend of mine plays steel, and he has an Emmons amp. SS, 15" speaker, BIG reverb....it's perfect. That amp is special made for steel, and it sure looks like this one is aimed at the same audience.

It's a back breaker.........

My Dad is a steeler and he got one to try out before they were in the stores. It didn't seem to be anything really all that special. He likes his Standels, Webbs, Evans and Peaveys much better. One alarming factor was the bulk of the thing. It is really thick and heavy and basically hard to handle. His back isn't the best so it didn't stay around long.

There is a new Peavey steel amp that is out now that is really the bomb. It has 1X15 and is in a small package. I think it is the new Nashville or something. Teles sound great through it.

If a heavy amp isn't any problem, I think that if I was going to go for a 15inch ss steel amp, I would look into a used peavey session 500. They can be found dirt cheap, and in my opinion are built very tough, and sound great. And I'm not sure what they do, but I'm pretty sure there is a six-string mod that can be done. Having said that I got to see Tom Brumley in the Fender room in St. Louis this year playing one of those Steel Kings and after he dialed it in, it seemed to sound fine.
Maybe the Nashville 112 is is the new peavey mentioned. 12 in spkr, that does indeed sound good for "squeaky clean" tele.

James Pennebaker has one and he said it's the best steel amp he's ever heard, even better than a Webb.
