I read through the threads and realize there are varied opinions about bolt-on versus set-neck.
I wish to know if the Indonesian made Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH...

Is worth the additional $200 over the Mexican made Fender Player Telecaster?

Thank you.

I bought one about 10 years ago and immediately returned it. Neck was thin and the neck radius was so flat I couldn't play it without my hand hurting. Nice guitar. Well built. Great sounding SD pickups. Just not for me.

Worth it? It very well could be if you want want the contours, Gibson/PRS-ish humbuckers + maple top, and are in love with the neck. Don't expect a Tele. The SE HH FMT is its own guitar.

I'd try to find an old made in Korea model and save a bunch of money though. The older ones have more fretboard width too. Run the serial number of any prospects to make sure in case I'm mistaken.

They are beautiful, lightweight, a little different, and definitely tone machines. I played a few in local shops and they are brutally good but just not my measurements (big hands and double jointed here!).

Good luck.

I owned one (set neck) for a short time. I didn't care for the profile of the neck, it was more of a shredder profile to me.
I've had a half dozen over the years and always move them on because of this. I prefer BIG necks and while these are stellar guitars, the neck is just too thin for me.

I agree that's it's a very different animal than a standard tele. The neck is skinny and flat and the pickups are definitely not twangy or raw like regular teles. I replaced mine with hb sized P90s and it moved from ho-hum to a favorite immediately. As far as the extra 200 - I think it's worth it just because I've yet to find a MIM fender without horrible fret sprout and bad nut cutting. The hh was immaculate right out of the box.

So, if you want a single cut guitar that looks tele-ish but feels more like an sg, this is the guitar for you. If you want tele feel and sound, go with a MIM deluxe.

Answer: Yes, if it's worth it to you. $200/10 yrs = $20 per year. Insignificant IMO.

On the other hand, why compare an HH to an SS? If I want an HH guitar, it will never be a T-style.

I have both.

My FSR is the gold top with super distortions I think it was made around 2004.

It's probably the best and most well made/versatile geetar I own. I don’t care much for the bridge.

It is very gibson-like which I like very much. I think I changed the knobs on it....

The player is very tele-like which is also good, but it's not any different from most any other tele.

I added a bigsby, rosewood board neck and 3 barrel bridge and made mine an esquire to spend the extra $200....

I just got one earlier this week and I like it a lot. The neck on mine is not "skinny and flat", but you might feel that way if you're used to a baseball bat. I had to do a setup because the string height was way too high, but other than that it has no issues. Sounds great played thru the Tone Master Pro.

I picked one up used recently for a great price and it's a fine guitar. I love my other Teles and this is another one. Mine is super light, well-made, and plays very well once you get used to the neck. It's less that it's super thin but that it's flatter/wider than I've known with most Teles (feels a little more Gibson/PRS to my hands). I've tried Squiers and other lower models in the Fender line but to me this is better value and I'm keeping it. It actually looks better in life than I imagined too.

anyway, I also have BOTH of the Charvel Joe Duplantier signature models (not familiar with the dude or the band)

the $999 one has Dimarzio's and the $699 has Duncan designed (import) pickups.

Both are pretty awesome geetars, but my FSR is still a better overall geetar. but not by much...

I think I like the $699 one more than the $999 one.

I have some fancy pickups sitting in a box, and I was thinking of changing out the Duncan Designed, but they really are nice and not worth changing out.

I got one a couple months ago; I loved the idea of it and the specs; on paper. However, I really don't like the guitar. There's something about it that makes it really difficult for me to play. When I move around the fretboard towards the higher frets, I get a little lost and end up a half-step off from where I feel I should be (not sure if this makes any sense) and on top of that I cannot see the fret markers on the guitar because the neck and fret markers are too dark. I also don't care for the bridge; it feels cheap and rough on the palm.

The guitar does sound good though but I will be getting rid of it for something else at some point.

Is this the set neck FSR?

It's a different beast for sure, I'm very used to Gibson's and this has a very Gibson feel.

I had to measure the scale length because it feels like a 24.75" but is is a 25.5"

yeah that bridge.... nothing nice to say about that.... I was trying to see what I could fit there instead of that mess... maybe could do a half tray but to make it look nice would be a task...

would have loved a tuna-matic....
