My Tidepool Player Tele arrived a couple of weeks ago, which prompted me to join TDPRI. In that short time, I've used it in a production (https://www.tdpri.com/threads/whiskey-in-the-jar-irish-traditional.980870/) and now I've completed the few mods that I wanted to make.

    1. Upgrade the strings to 10s
    2. Switch the string-tree for the no-friction variety
    3. Install Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups

And now it is perfect. There is nothing more that I would do to it. The stock pickups were great but very noisy through the gain channel and I want to use this tele for some 1970s British Punk goodness as well as Twanging.

The Vintage Noiseless pickups are of course twangy - but very dynamic. Hit the string hard and it produces a Quack that Donald Duck would be proud of.

Including all the extras, this Tele has cost me £650, that's half the price of the American Professional. Incredible value all round.

Nice - Tidepool is one of my favorite Player colors. These Player teles are really special. My local store has two in stock (both in white ?!) and they both play and sound better right off the rack than most of the MIAs up to $2500 and beyond. I know this is largely due to setup, but the Players are incredible instruments.

Very nice looking guitar, I agree that it doesn’t need anything else.

In the future you may want to try 11s. My Teles seem the most comfortable with slightly heavier strings.

By the way, great production on that song all the way around. The Tele really sits in the mix well. It’s easily heard but doesn’t interfere with the rest of the song or instrumentation. Funny - even when I only played strats live I often used my solitary Tele at the time for recording - it just seemed to sit better and require less post-production at mix time. My recordings are infrequent and strictly hobbiest - not an par with yours, quality wise.

@howlin I used to hate tort guards and love white pearloid. Now I’m completely opposite. White pearloid?! What was I thinking?! ;)

I like tort or black on bursts and tort or white on metallics like Tidepool and Sage Green.

I now have to install vintage noiseless pickups in my telecaster. I've waited long enough.

Love mine too, expect my had been replaced since 2018 had crap saddles and some of 2018 had bad quality truss rods. I rather stay with pickups, maybe texas specials or Seymour DUncan Quarter pounds in the future. Im thinking of vintera too, or second player for 2020-2021

Personally, whenever I get the opportunity I avoid pick guards like the plague. from a design POV it's too much negative space with white and other "whiteish" p/g's. Besides, everyone is always talking about poly muffling the tone but then they slap a slab of plastic on the front of their guitars without a second thought. Just sayin' . . .

To each their own :) I'm not a huge fan of the contemporary Tele look. I like the look of the right guard. But all personal preference! I don't subscribe to the theory that thickness of finish has a major impact on tone - I've had very thick poly covered bodies that were very resonant. The nut, contact of the body and the neck and the bridge all have a much bigger impact, IMHO. I can't back this up with any physics, of course, but that has been my experience.
