I recently purchased a black Cabronita... love this girl...
Only problem... pickguard... doesn't do the guitar justice IMO...
Question... Does anyone know of or tried a different pickguard... I would like to fit it with a Telecaster pickguard... can it be done?

I am pretty sure a standard Tele guard will not cover the lower rear hole of the Cab pickguard and the standard Tele guard will require several new holes above the strings.

Make a nice Cab pickguard and call it a day.

I know exactly what you mean. The stock guard looks like someone cut it out of a Clorox bottle and ironed it flat. Fortunately, you aren't stuck with it:

This came from WD Music Products, and was a direct replacement. Nice 4-ply with a beveled edge.
    EDIT: here's the link: http://www.wdmusic.com/pickguard_tec_4.html

wdmusic.com has some great options for cabronita pick guards.

I have the black cab. I don't mind the guard other than the contrast of too white against the black. I tried staining it to no avail.

Had (very) many guitars over the years but this Cab seems to tick all the boxes for me, haven't touched my Strat since I bought this one... Love that Tele body, those pups do sound pretty cool, not to mention the price factor... yes, it is MIM but can't fault it for the price... but... Bender66 hit the nail in the head... "... too white against the black"
After much googling I agree with Mike Simpson, a Tele p/guard won't cover the bottom hole and won't look right...
Been checking out Zillinois and Lumbergh's suggestion, WD have some pretty cool guards, freight to Oz might be steep tho...
Which style would you guys go for on a black Cabbie

There's a good Ebay seller called mlaval-guitar. They sell replacement pickguards for MIM Cabs. I got a red tortoiseshell for my white thinline and now fancy mint green for my black solidbody. Perfect fit too. Def worth a look.

Why not see if you can get something custom made from a builder or company?

It's an acquired taste, not for everyone, and not cheap, but if you're into gold anodized aluminum guards, Toneguard does one for Cabronitas that I think is beautiful.

I've got the same problem and was thinking of something red, a sort of Wilconita. Could look okay with a black Cab like ours?

I think that pearl guard would look very nice on black with chrome hardware, or just a 3-layer WBW if that's a little flashier than you had in mind.

I like parchment or p/b/p on black too. Pearloid just seems to fit a Cab.

I don't care for pick guards made from record vinyl, just my opinion... If you like it, go for it... It is your guitar, put whatever makes you happy on it.

I'd like to see what the red/white/red looks like on a candy apple red Cab.

If you have a router table it is pretty easy to make your own pickguards. You can do it without a router table but having one makes it easy.

Here is a pic when I was making the mint green pearloid guard for the green guitar posted above. The protective plastic is still on in this pic.

Part of the appeal of a Cab, to me, is that simple pg. It wasn't always so. IMO, that all black guard on a black Cab just doesn't cut it, the same way that Root tele is. All the beauty gets lost in the blackness. Black hardware? Makes for nothing to look at.

I have tried a 3 ply black guard on my black MIM. It was meh. I stained the original with coffee & put it back on. It looked great.
