I will be passing through Ensenada next week on my way down to the Baja and wanted to stop in at the Fender factory. Has anyone checked out the Ensenada factory? If so, do they give tours or sales? And i wonder if Fender gear is cheaper in Mexico than in USA??

    thanx for your responses.

Wow Bamboozle, thanx very much for making that tour possible.

Unfortunately, it was stated that the Ensenada Fender factory is not open to the public.
    cheers

I used to see it on frequent weekend retreats there when I was based in LA. The factory has improved since then, but the last time I visited, Ensenada and the surrounding area was really degraded. A new concrete factory belches a layer of grit over everything, McDonalds where there were only local vendors before, more cheesey tourist stuff at every turn. Canucklehead, maybe go past Ensenada and stay at the El Faro resort where you can get your own little cabin on the beach pretty cheap... better than staying in town.

Thanx for the travel tip, Mr. D. Good to know.

Curious to know if Fender gear (including used) sells cheaper down in Ensenada? Since a factory tour now seems unlikely, maybe we will seek out used guitar shops for any lower priced gear.

    cheers

Let me know how things are down there canucklehead.

You know they make (or at least did until recently) old school VW Beetles (yes, the original design, not todays "New Beetle"!) down there, but you can't bring one home because they totally fail to meet current US safety standards. Make sure the guitars aren't finished in arsenic or something ;)

I don't think there is likely to be a single music store on the Baja penninsula, but good luck!

I found a music store in La Paz last year that was selling Marshall. Plus i would think, as in a lot of North America, that more guitar/gear heads are born each day. As such, increasing the purchases of Fender equipment in Ensenada/Baja Penn.

Who knows, wouldn't hurt to look around ... i am also tying in a search for used tv/radios shops down there in order to maybe pick up some NOS tubes at more reasonable prices??

Go straight down the road and on your left (3/4 qtrs down?) you'll see a "main office door" type. Hopefully someone will be there and just tell them that your a fan of Fender and if you could have a quick tour. That's what I did and it worked. I gave the guy some cash at the end of the tour for his troubles.

I would think the place for things like that would be mainland mexican cities, and I did have my eyes open while in Baja, went to flea markets, etc., nada. I wish you better luck!

I was told the factory was not open to the public. I could be wrong, but that's the way it was when I went.

They did make exceptions, but it had to be cleared through the main office in AZ.

Like I said, they may have changed things since I went, but I had to get clearance from one of the V.P.'s to be able to go.

Post pics if you make it!

When are you leaving because I need to make a call for the street name. Certain landmarks are Costco and Burger King. As soon are you are on the correct street you will see a big Fender sign on one of the buildings on the right and I think they build amps in that particular building.

I was thinking the same thing. It's like having our own next door Afghanistan
Not trying to make this political, just be careful and good luck getting the tour.
