    Hi everyone!

I am about to buy a 66 fender esquire.
Here are the details: alder body was refinished in olympic white with some relic, it was refreted and there is a neck pickup installed.
The owner says all parts are original, also the neck pickup is from 66.

Please help me what price would be reasonable.
I am also interested in any tips how to be sure that it is really all original, except the aforementioned things.
    Thanks
    Here are some pics

Looks good to me but do you have close up pics of the neck pocket, neck stamp, wiring harness, pickup bottoms, string ferrules etc.?

An all original 66 Tele goes approximately for 9k€ in Europe. If everything is original besides the finish, and you're buying from a dealer, then 5k€ would be reasonable for a Tele. Don't know if an Esquire would add a premium.

The owner says the neck stamp could be seen only with some light or something, cause there is a new lacquer on it.

Are you sure that these pictures are all from the same guitar?

The second picture shows the pickguard holes to be more enlarged than in the 4th picture and there seems to be cracking in the finish around the screw holes that aren't in the last picture.

Also in the last picture, I can't see the holes that hold in the neck pickup.

And the owner is now saying the neck has been refinished as well?

You are right Mr.Twang, thanks for the observation.
The owner says the 4th pic was taken after it was refinished. May be that is why the holes seems different. Also he says the finish was reliced, may be the crackings came after refinish.
Anyway I will try it tomorrow, hopefully I will have more infos about it.

The headstock looks good to me (with the patent numbers partially falling off). But you would still like to see the neck stamp. The lighter indian rosewood is also correct for after 1965 i believe. Do the neck plate and the tuners look ok? The only thing i noticed on the body is the outer corner of the control cavity that i would expect to be more squarish but that could be the picture. Otherwise it all seems to check out to me. Maybe Slack will drop by. He is the most knowledgeable here. Btw are you sure that is an alder body? In the neck pocket it looks like ash to me.

My eyes aren't that good, but I think I read '604' on the first pot pic. 1966, 4th week. So that seems in line...

I'm by NO MEANS an expert, just an interested gawker. But when was the refin? With lacquer? I'm wondering why it's all the same aged color, even in the areas not normally exposed to light.

Here's my 2011-built '69 AV in Oly lacquer. Lots of difference even in a couple years.

I think it's a shame that it was refinished, and relic'ed to boot.

That cuts any potential value by at least 50%.

The value is already reduced so if you purchase it today you are benefiting from the 50% reduction.

    refin:
I'd buy it, play it and probably bugger it up.

    original:
I'd buy it, play it and probably bugger it up.

I'd be happy with the reduced price today vs. potential "earnings" tomorrow.
In ten years if it needs a refret/refin/rewire I can do it without impacting the value.

My point was that it's unfortunately no longer a $10K guitar, that's all. Hopefully, the OP can make the seller aware of that.

I played the guitar this afternoon, it was cool even with the old ****y strings on it.
The price is one of the most attractive things around this guitar. I could buy it for 3800eur.

One thing was weird, it was as heavy as my 78 tele its 3.6kg (7.9 lbs)
    Is it normal?

    For €3800 I'd say it's worth it.

And I'd call 7.9lbs a decent, and not unusual, weight. (8.9lbs is starting to get heavy!)
