I'm seriously considering getting one of these, due to their versatility, so I'd like to hear from any owners and appreciators of the Fender Deluxe Nashville Tele.

What's the neck like on these? How are the pickups? I'm looking at the alder-bodied, Brown Sunburst w/ maple neck version.

Also, and apologies if it's been discussed before, but how easy is it to re-wire the 5-way switch so you get the bridge & neck pickups on when the switch is in the middle instead of the stock middle Strat pickup on its own?

Thanks,

You can wire them easily for the neck/bridge combo, but I like the middle stop too much to change it. Mine's the Power model with piezo bridge and that's also a nice feature. The neck is a tad heftier than the "modern" profile that's become popular and that's a good thing for me, since the Nashville neck has a little heft to it. Not too chunky, but not a toothpick like the CVs. Probably one of the best Teles offered by Fender. The Tex Mex pickups, used in some pricier models are very well balanced and have good even tone, with some depth. Not overly shrilly. Probably one of Fender's best pickup designs for Teles. Can't really offer any negatives on the Nashville model. I've had mine at least 10 years and it's not going anywhere. It's one you'll want to keep a long time.

I rewired mine. Or got it rewired. So now it's the standard wiring. When you pull the push pull switch out the neck pickup turns on so you really get Tele neck bridge and then all three.

I THINK this is the schematic

Love my '06 and won't ever part with it. I installed a p/p pot to add the bridge to any switch position. I have changed the pups, but only because I do that every now and then.

Neck is C and 9.5 radius. If you could get somewhere to play what you buy is nice as necks from production do very, some heaver than others by a tad.

Excellent quality build I would say, for the money, you can't go wrong.

I call them the leatherman of geetars.

I've had a Deluxe Nashville for about 3 years. The neck is really nice, but larger profile than I'd had before (original 1964 Tele).
I played it stock for about 2 years, then was missing the neck/bridge standard Tele combination, so put a Fender Super Switch in to get that combination.
I didn't care for the middle pickup by itself and hadn't use that pickup at all.
Pickups are "ok", bridge by itself isn't wonderful, but on the 2 and 4 positions (Strat "quack") settings, they are as good as any Strat sound I've gotten with Strats.
If I HAD to work with one guitar, this would probably be it. I've got two other Strats also.

I have a 2011 Nashville Deluxe and I really like it. It has a modern C neck with medium jumbo frets and rosewood fretboard.
I like the TexMex bridge and middle pickups but I the neck pickup was microphonic at high volume; I changed it for a Lollar Royal T (for that mid 60s Strat sound), great pickup.
I also changed the bridge for a Gotoh modern bridge because I don't like the side walls on the ashtray bridge.

To get the neck/bridge pickup sound I simply swapped the middle and bridge pickup wires on the selector to get the following selections:
1- neck, 2- neck/bridge, 3- bridge, 4- bridge/middle, 5- middle.
I don't miss the neck/middle sound (which I didn't like) and I don't mind the selection order in fact, I kind of like it.

Another happy owner - I've made some changes, but essentially, it completely won me over from the moment it came new out of the box for me to try out.
The Tex Mex stock pickups are really quite nice; they work very well together.
You can use the two-pole 'half' superswitch to wire for 'Strat-o-Tele' wiring (neck/bridge on in middle position) as well...
I ultimately put in part of a kit from ToneShapers which gives me a super low-profile push-button in the mid-point of the plate between the knobs - it's wires so that I can decide what happens in the middle position, either bridge & neck together, or just the middle by itself.

Great instrument, with a lot of classic appointments (a big part of why I chose it).

In fact, I got it with the intention of retrofitting it to 'classic' layout (removing middle pickup etc) - but it charmed me right from moment one, and it has stayed a Nashville.
Mine is a '12 same spec as you're looking at (brown 'burst, maple fretboard).

Very nice value for money; I will say that the bridge can be an issue (6-hammer style) - I found that, in particular, the high-e string saddle was wandering downward in height as I played it.
(Same thing happened at a later date when I was test-driving a James Burton Standard with that same bridge.)
Being a classic 'ashtray' footprint, there are oodles of options for swapping-out, should that be an issue for you.

Why a Strat pickup in the middle instead of another Tele neck? Or why not a Strat middle and neck?

I picked up a Triple Tele a few months back http://www.samash.com/classic-playe...0&cadevice=c&gclid=CILN_b-bpMgCFU9sfgodfvUAxA

My only complaint with it is the one I received is on the rougher side of MIM quality. It sounds pretty nice though. Also I wouldn't have opted for black on black, but that was the only color option.

IMHO the neck profile is one of the best Fender offers. Somewhat like a Baja at the nut but not as deep then a typical modern "C" from around the 6th fret or so up. I like it so well I have that neck on two of my Teles and soon on a 3rd.

I'm not fan of the stock pickups or the stock wiring which excludes the usual bridge/neck combination but both of these issues are easily rectified. I have a '95 MIM that I actually modified to a Nashville configuration and I love the guitars versatility.

Yep, great guitars. I've had several for building platforms. Chunky neck with 9.5" radius and jumbo frets.
IMHO the pickups aren't great, and neither is the pot metal bridge. But with new pups and bridge they are outstanding guitars.
In my experience the only way to get the middle Tele setting (neck and bridge) you will need something like the Super Switch.

I got a sunburst one in about 1999 or 2000, and it was my main Tele for a number of years. I altered the wiring so I could turn the middle pickup on and off independently. I didn't like the red mother-of-toilet-seat pick guard so I changed it for a flat black one. Didn't like the white plastic pickup cover on the middle pickup so I changed it for a black one.

I'm not a big fan of the Tex-Mex Tele pickups, although I like Strat Tex-Mex pickups just fine. Maybe they have improved since 2000. I put Fender Original Vintage in mine. Also, I put three compensated brass saddles on the bridge, felt that there was definitely more twang and sustain when I made the switch.

Right now I have it wired up as a stock Tele. I just don't use the Strat sounds all that much, and I have two Strats if I want the quack. I'm even thinking of turning it into an Esquire.

I agree with the other posts that say this is a really nicely built guitar with a great neck. Along with the Baja I think it's a noticeable step up from a standard MIM Tele, but still available at a great price. You can make just about any kind of Tele you want with it just by changing pick guards and doing some wiring adjustments.

I played mine so much as my #1 guitar for years that the next thing I really need to do is dress the frets. I wish Fender would start selling guitars that come stock with stainless steel frets....
