There are several comments similar to "surely there much be accurate records". I wish there were better records. I kept a detailed log book from when Michael Stevens and I first started the shop. Michael also kept a detailed record which got passed down to J.W. Black and ultimately to Fred Stuart. Unfortunately things got too busy for me to keep up my log book after mid 1988. Some of the pages in those log books are featured in Tom Wheeler's Dream Factory book.

Our focus was to design and build custom guitars to the best of our abilities. We were constantly struggling to build and keep the shop afloat from a business point of view. The guitars were our primary concern, not the records.

Just think how boring these forums would be if there were accurate records!

    John and Mike,

Thanks for shedding some light on these guitars (and the FCS in general.)

For some reason, I am really drawn to them.

[QUOTE="But surely the CS, making such high grade, high end, and sought after instruments, surely they must have thorough documentation and detailed records right? Or am I wrong?[/QUOTE]

I don't know how many times I asked Mike to go to those records and find out, but it just never happened. Seems pretty basic stuff to me.. I totally agree that they ought to be there and that they should be concise, given the level of instrument they offer.

If the records exist, a call or mail to [email protected] should get all the info that is available, and if they can't find it, then it doesn't exist.

Amazed that its so easy for some of the folks here to fail to understand that Mike & John post here on their own time. Middle of the night during the holidays and they expect immediate answers. I know every time I've communicated directly with the custom shop through FENDER.COM I received the information in a couple of days. Only a child would expect immediate satisfaction in the middle of the night. Even worse is still pouting about if, unbelievable.

Mike, John thanks for sharing with us. I appreciate it greatly.

    Yes, it can.

I would encourage everybody to take care about what they post. It is easy to hide behind the anonymity of the internet and say things that would never be said to a person's face.

    Happy Holidays!

Actually there is. You'll get an E-Mail that summons you to them. And then no more account here.

All the time. They don't put up with much fighting and rule breaking. If they did it would be like a lot of other forums. The guys that run and moderate this place are what makes it a great forum. Otherwise it would be pure anarchy.

    Don't ask how I know.

    I completely agree.

I think the CS came out looking bad on this one. I mean I think it's super great of them to be involved with us here but to call their own CS built guitars fakes was a bad move. I'm sure they see that now and it may have gave insight into the need for more in depth record keeping. So maybe some good came with the bad.

I will also say to the guys with the guitars. Those are friggin' awesome. And I will say to the CS guys. Those are awesome friggin' guitars.

Funny how you assumed I was talking about you.. but yeah reread your post, pouting and carrying on and you don't even own the guitar.. Mike apologized John jumped in and you're still ragging..
