I am planning on purchasing a Fender Amp for my father who is 69 years old as a Christmas Present. I already got him a Rickenbacker 330 Fireglo and have tried both, Fender Champion 50X and Blues Jr. IV (Tube amp).

He will use the RIC to play clean stuff such as Beatles, Buddy Holly, The Ventures, and not any ACDC or Led Zeppelin or CCR, meaning, no overdriven tunes. Which of these two amps will sound cleaner and have better sound quality?

    I'll second the Blues Jr.

Beatles with a Ric? May I suggest a vox? AC10.

Not a big blues jr fan. And it doesn't seem to the right amp for what he will do. If anything, the Bjr is *for* driven tube tones. I think a nice chimey semi-saturated (or clean) voxish vibe is the way to go.

I've got the champ 50. It's a good amp for home play. But I'd probably go with the Blues Jr too.

If you can find a good price on a used Princeton Reverb that would be the way to g0.

I play a blues Jr all the time and love it. It is a 2 trick pony with great cleans and blues tones like a mini tweed bassman. It works for me. It is one channel so its a one trick pony with one sound at a time. But that one trick is pretty much all I need.

But the Champion 50X has two channels plus effects and amp sims built in. An AC 30 or similar class A for Beatles plus other amps. Also effects. Cons are its solid state so you don't get the tube warmth.

So blues Jr for tone and Champion for versatility. Either is a good choice though I would want to listen to the Campion first to make sure I was happy with the sound. That said, I'm surprising myself here but IMO the Champion looks awfully good for all around playing. And he may surprise you if he has a simulated marshall stack amp sim. It also looks to be a good bit lower price.

Either way you're good. And let me say you're a great son to buy the old man a Rick and an amp!

How good will a rickenbacker 330 sound with a fender champion 50x vs a vox ac15c1?

At the end i tested a fender blues jr IV vs Bassbreaker 15 and decided the Blues Jr. was the way to go with the rick 330.
