Three month old Fender Blues Junior makes a noise on startup. Plays fine afterwards though.

    all tubes glow.
Happens regardless of anything plugged in.
Happens with volume up or down.

does NOT happen when the reverb tank is disconnected.

    thoughts anyone?

3 months old so still under warranty, so return to seller, if you or someone else tries to fix it the warranty becomes void.

A new amp should not be making loud thumping noises on startup.

Yikes, maybe check the tubes are seated correctly, and then send her back.

I am sorry to say that I have owned 6 or 7 blues junior and/or pro juniors over the years. I have really wanted to like them but all ended up having weird and usually intermittent noise problem. I finally just got a refund after the second one they swapped out at the music store did the same. I could not trust them to even think about gigging with any of them.

I bought a new blues jr iv from GC earlier this year. I had it 5 days and it started to make some noises. I returned it and got a refund. I thought $600 was to much for most likely future troubles. I thought it sounded nice though when it wasn’t making noises.

Bad tube? You can try cleaning the tube pins as mentioned above.

Repeat the start up in the dark, have a look at the power tubes for odd flashes. The power tubes are the larger tubes.

Tube infant mortality is a thing.

I have one, so far no issues, two years in, great sounding amp, fingers crossed.
But yes, check all tubes, possibly where your trouble is, and hopefully easy fix and less hassle than returning at this stage.
Or maybe send that video to seller ?

Thanks for all your replies. Tried this and nothing untoward spotted. I’ve sent the video to the retailer and a repair is being organised. We’ll see what that brings

There is another thread talking about the reverb op-amp.
Blues Jr Green board reverb buzz/crackle

You may want to have a read on that thread. They suggested to try cleaning the reverb cable RCA plugs/jacks.

Sounds like a slow bias shift to me, but not in a tube. Your description suggests it’s isolated around the hand of the TL072 that’s sending the signal to the reverb tube. Perhaps R46 has a dry joint or C21 is duff?
