I'm an 'off' person myself. I've always found Fender amps bright enough, I'm not sure when I would need it on. Perhaps with the right pups? Still, I've played both single coils and humbuckers and still haven't found a time I've needed to brighten it up.

Just my $0.05...

I never ever have used the bright switch on any Fender amps I have owned. I find the bright switch way too much. I'd like to cut the bright cap on my deluxe reverb too.

On. The brightness annoys my drummer.

My first SFTR was a bright sounding thing so I'd tilt it back and point at the drummer's head. His mellon was the best beam blocker ever !

Now I find I like them on or off depending on the day and I don't find Fenders amps even with JBLs to be overly bright anymore.

What was that you said?

I like the bright switch a lot now that I am over 60.

:lol: Yeah Doc I think my hearing is different now then it was 20 or more years ago.

Tele bridge pickup, TR, JBLs bright ? What ? More treble ? Ok.

I do like to think my first SFTR was just really bright though.

99% of the time off. Even with most humbucker guitars I find I can get more than enough treble. The only time I reach to turn it on is when I have to do whisper level volume recordings, and those are always a compromise to begin with for tone.

.

That's known as the John Mellonblocker anti beam machine.

I have compared and the sf's are definitely brighter. I can hear that even with my crappy old ears!

I just read that the cap value can be changed so the difference is more subtle.
Might be worth a try for the off people.
Go from 120pF to 100.

I'll have to try the switch on at low volume. Learned something new. Thanks.

if you read the owners manual it says this is how its supposed to be used
(at high volumes the bright switch doesnt do anything)
its for low volume only.

I've been really enjoying the sounds with the bright switch engaged but I've found that my fuzz hates it. Very nice for clean and light OD, though.

I can't figure out why they even bother to put a bright switch on this amp. For what I play it's channel 2/input 2/no bright switch because input 1 with the bright switch = broken glass.
