New to these B-Benders, having a great time. Heavy guitars though. I haven't had any real reason to take the metal back plate off yet to investigate, but...

Question is, is that big hunk of metal on the back connected at all to the mechanism, or is it just a cover?

If it's just a cover, I was thinking of fashioning a cover out of plastic to cut the weight of the guitar.

Ideas? Feedback?

Thanks.

Nope. Just got through to fender, it's all connected. Bummer.

Oh well. Still having a great time learning to use this thing.

i believe the new ones have plastic plates now, maybe you could order a backplate from fender and reattach all the stuff to that instead??

Parsons Green Benders

What he has is a Parsons Green bender....those are as he says... the bender mechansim is attached to the metal plate and as such cannot be removed.

Sol... you are thinking of the very first run (first 100 or so built during the 70's and early 80's?) of Parsons White benders where yes the back plate was metal even though the bender was attached to the guitar. Those could have a clear plexiglass plate refitted. Those originals were all built by Gene Parsons. The newer versions of Parsons White benders all have the clear plexiglass back plate...

thank you for the responses. all the best,
JR

One possibility is to have someone with metal machining skills to make you a new backplate from ALUMINUM. This will at least remove that much of the weight from the guitar. I've seen pics of one that someone in Germany did.
