Fellow geezers will relate: Grim Reaper seems to be circling...

Just to be clear, he doesn't SEEM to be coming for me just yet, but in like the last ten days:

I heard that an old colleague from a previous job passed away in January,
A family friend back in the States just passed away over the weekend,
A fella I went to school with had to give up his job because of ALS, and
A really close friend went into hospice care for pancreatic cancer.

It's kind of exhausting to contemplate that this is a trend that is most likely going to accelerate until some point when I'm on somebody ELSE's list.

So far this is looking like the toughest part of going into my 60s...

Yep, I hear ya. About three years ago I had three friends pass away within two months. Then I see all these people much younger than myself passing away. It now has become a consideration.

Or 75 1/2.

The little girl who lived three doors down from us when I was growing up died just last week. An a first-cousin's son-in-law died the same week.

Seems like funeral attendance is getting to be a regular thing.

Maybe that's why my generation were called "boomers." There was a baby boom; lots of children being born. And now they/we are approaching the other end of their/our lifespans.

We are all here on God's good humor. Be good to each other. Spend time with loved ones. When
the reaper requires your presence, ask he/she if they're sure it's you they want. Mistakes
do happen. I've seen many people I've known in life, pass, and I think of when we met or the good times
we had. Then I SMILE.

FYI, Toby Keith died yesterday at 62. You just never know when it’s your turn.

My best man and 3 groomsmen are gone. They were highschool friends and we were the same age. I've been blessed.

The grim reaper is omnipresent these days. If not within our own circles, then through our various devices informing us of the latest celebrity death. He's lurking behind the trees even when we're walking and whistling down the sunny side of the street. It's can be hard to find a balance between an awareness and a preoccupation. I've concluded that it takes some level of stoicism to pass through these years with some self-respect. How we get there, whether through stubbornness, indifference, or faith is a different discussion.

Am going through all of the health problems right now. It's no fun and very depressing sitting around with a broken arm waiting on results from blood work, MRI results and CT scan scheduling. Going on 3 weeks. I know the VA will fix me up but it is getting hard to take.

I either have 15-18 years or - I have a couple minutes.

So I’ll keep looking forward and making plans and doing.

And I’ll push back negative thoughts and petty grudges (I have 8 siblings so that’s tough) and try to be somewhat worthy of being alive.

What else can one do ?
