Thanks for the correction…I’m obviously not an expert. I just prefer that shape over what I guess I considered a classic Fedora.

It takes a certain sort of fellow to pull off the fedora look without becoming a living parody. I am not that sort of fellow.

I have a big Duluth Trading hat I wear in the garden. It's well-ventilated and my wife bought it for me for $5 at the thrift store about five years ago.

When I go to the farmer's market or to the home center, I wear my NASA ball cap that my son gifted me when he got his NASA job.

They carry a lot of baggage these days - it’s the hat of choice for basement dwelling 4chan misogynists.

Like i said earlier, you really need to wear one with the right outfit and attitude. Not just with a t shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Having a sense of style also helps avoid the taint of basement dwellers.

I am of the generation that sees fedoras as something that creepy dudes tip as they say mi'lady, not something I want to get involved with really. If my hair looks dumb I'll just chuck my Mets cap on.

I think they look good, but really don't like them in blues bands. Sorry, I meant blooz bands. That being said, I bought one in a thrift shop and thought I looked good in it. I walked into one of my classes wearing it, and the room instantly erupted with "Yeahs!" Still, I have a hard time finding places where I would look good in it. Vanity, where would we be without it, I guess.

Didn't Zappa require his bandmates in his early band, the Blackouts, to wear Hombergs? Hard to imagine him doing that.

Yeah, it is a great look. Fairly wide brim, but not too wide. I have one, as well as some similar shaped Stetsons. I also have a vintage Penny Marathon, the type Jeff Bridges wore in the film Sea Biscuit.

I love them and have two. One AdventureBuilt and one from Steel & Jones. Both are great and I should wear them more.

    At a pinch it will do for a Blues Brothers number or two;

Funny thing I have never been a hat guy but the fedora has always kinda caught my eye (thanks Indy)

I was working with a group 20 years younger than me and a guy about my age walked by with a fedora on.

I said "check out mr. dapper."

Two shook their heads and walked away, the other said "only pimps and child molesters wear fedoras."

I am still bewildered by this observation.

    Kids today...........

I got my first fedora in middle school and have worn them ever since. This is the hat I wear in summer (and let's not argue about whether a straw can be a fedora).

Next up is a nice stratoliner for the fall.

It’s much like cowboy hats. There are rules and standards to wearing it. You respect those. That’s fine. Not my style personally. But not gonna knock anyone. I will say there’s a certain style that pairs with it. I’m a jeans and T-shirt with work boots kinda guy. I wear a ball cap every day. I have 2 nice cowboy hats for special occasions where I dress up. (Obviously due to rules I have a straw one and a black felt one.)

but saying that. I’m not quite sure what the actual style is. Kind of fedora/gambler? Maybe the flat bill fedora if that makes sense? (I guess when I think of fedora I think of a real short billed hat)

But hats like these. A cross between the fedora and cowboy hat? Idk. I like these. More versatile. Jeans, a more casual button down, or even a 3 button Henley shirt. Not as dressy or flashy

If I wore ball caps or narrow-brimmed hats I'd look like Stewie, or whatever his name is, that football-headed cartoon character. I have a "Banjo Paterson" by Akubra. I look forward to rainy days, because that's the best time for such a thing. I have a special hat rack:
