Thanks for responding.....I JUST found it on Amazon.
I've had a few jars that were so hard to remove the lids that I had to resort to using a bench vise in my shop. I hope this eliminates that problem.

For me it's an older Makita cordless drill/driver. I got it from my dad so I don't know exactly how old it is - probably 15ish years. It's on replacement batteries, but it works great, is well balanced, comfortable to use, etc. It just feels nice to use it.

In the year I’ve had it, it’s never failed to work. On extra tricky jars I sometimes “nibble” the opener around the lid until I hear that satisfying “pop!” Once that happens, there’s little resistance to opening the jar using the opener or just by hand.

    Army issue?

I restored one, a '51, a couple of weeks ago: bulletproof design and good Sheffield steel.

Yes, got it from my father in the early 80s. I have two of them, and one without the spike.
    I thought it was navy....?

Weazel and Flaneur, intruiged as to the "42 and "51 labels, I have my Grandfather's one of those, WW1 British Army issue, (Royal Fusliers, City of London Battalion). It went through Cape Helles, the Somme, and then in WW2, the Blitz in London.

Who would have thought that this simple device translates Swedish TV progams into German?
