Well, right now it's got to be this Kirn tele. 7.0 pounds of one-piece ash and plays like a dream:

Here's the chorus line, before I got the AVRI 62, and before Bazooka grew a third pickup.

9 strings. 2 hot rails style humbuckers. One under the pickguard and one under the jazz bass ashtray. Switch is wired for both pickups in series in the up position, both in series through a severe high pass filter in the middle position, and bridge alone in the down position. Tone knob is push-pull to coil split both pickups. Many miles on this one so far!

Just what the heck is this thing?! NINE STRINGS?! I'm very intrigued and you definitely win the award for most unique guitar in a long time.

I want to hear more about it though. I'm guessing you made it or had it made special for you? How do you tune it? I see a single low e string and no high e strings. Is that right??

And then the origin story of when you decided it would have a jazz bass bridge cover.

That would answer most of my questions. :)

    I love it.

These two. They aren’t in the garage where I was playing them on the Vibrolux a couple months ago.

I've never used the high E string, so when I got into a 12 string, off went the top two strings. The octave pair of the low E string robbed bass response, so I removed that too. This was how I got to 9 strings. After playing a guitar with 3 holes in the headstock for a while, I had the idea to ask the in/famous Fatdog at Subway Guitars in Berkeley, CA build me this tele. I am really into keeping the strings slack and have it tuned a fifth below what would be standard from low to high: Aa Dd Gg Cc EE (unison)

The bridge is a bit gnarly. It's a modern tele plate cut in half to hold the pickup butted up against a Gotoh 12 string bridge. I wanted to fit a tele ashtray, but there was nothing for it to clip onto. I got the jazz bass ashtray idea from an image another TDPRI member posted years ago and voila!

I wanted something different. A nod to the past, but in a quirky way.
    Hence, the "sears catalog" telecaster.
I knew exactly what I wanted spec-wise and got it. I have better looking, more expensive Fender made instruments but this one is my favorite telecaster.
