Long time poster....first time PRRI owner, '65 PRRI w/ P12Q specifically. Just wondering what your favorite pedal is for pushing the Princeton? I tried a Fulltone Secret Freq into a '68 PRRI and it pushed it to breakup nicely - reminded me of how a treble booster pushed a Bassman ('59 LTD RI)

Just wondering what you have found works best.

I’m really liking the Fulltone Octafuzz, on the plain fuzz setting, on my Sweetwater tweed. Also using a Greer Lightning for a boost, but the fuzz is a happy grind right now.

My SF Princeton gets an always-on T-Rex Fat Shuga boost/reverb to bring it up to parity with the PRRI. The PRRI gets a blue (BD2) or/and a green (Bad Monkey) drive pedal set with gain down or moderate and level 75-100%.

Of course tube screamer and BD-2 pedals will work well too. Skeptical on fuzzes into fenders. Too harsh for a scooped amp. Need something with mids.

I hesitate to say it, but the humble Tube Screamer is pretty good with a PR. Fills in the missing mids.

EP Booster and Timmy, mentioned already, are both great also.

I have an Xotic EP booster but only use it to goose the volume for leads. My main drive is Wampler Euphoria for versatility- it does the edge of break up thing on the open setting and can get as wild and dirty as you like on the smooth setting.

    I agree,
As much as I absolutely love my Blues Driver ( always ON) with my blonde Blues Jr. or Vox Pathfinder,

it's EQ is lacking mids, much in the same way as a BF/SF Fenders are- so too much 'smiley face EQ' with both together = fizzy, and OD lacking body. Just my experience.

I had better results with a few Tube Screamer clones with my '68 DR, and my buddy's SF Princeton Reverb.

    * I actually did not dime amp's volume- I like the amp'scclean tone, and use it as a rhythm/lead tone on some songs, then actually do like the TS at a moderate Drive level, for its distortion ( so, not the SRV cranked Level, Drive low method) and can put the pedal volume and dirt right where I want it.

    * just can't work the 'crank the amp' thing:
it is too loud like this in low-volume gig situations, plus you don't get the distortion either as w/o a pedal you wont get it unless you crank guitar and then all is too loud.

you're going to get a lot of suggestions here, I bet, because every pedal in the world sounds great with a Princeton. It's the amp they were all made to sound good with.

Having said that, I vote for the Tchula.

For just pushing the amp, I use my Orange Kongpressor with the compression dialed back.

For more overdrive, I use a MXR Sugar Drive.

My experience with a PR is that you dont want to push it too hard, so a cleanish/low gain OD is best. (in a band mix) They can get real nasty fast.
Add to that you have the small magnet P12Q speaker and it's more important yet.
Bedroom player? just disregard all this.

Good catch on the Jensen schmee- I tried that combination and it got farty real quick when pushed. A Celestion alnico was an amazing transformation.
