The general definition is that it made it into a major music chart. I think at least most of these did...

Not quite the definition. One pop chart top ten hit, buy like 7-8 on the R&B charts.

Just heard Never met a girl like you before in a barbershop as my kid was getting his haircut. Probably counts.

    Cheers,

I love scrolling through these posts with an idea or two of my own to post. As I scroll, I look for it and find some cool tunes along the way. But it's satisfying to get to the end to find the songs I wanted to post haven't been posted yet. So here goes!

I would love to cover this one!

MTV fans will never forget this one:

    SCIENCE!!!

"Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot.

I'd post the video here, but it might cause a few cases of the vapors.

I'm not sure Desmond Dekker is a one hit wonder. Not if you're into Roots anyway, or happen to have grown up in Jamaica in 60s/70s.

    But props are deserved.

007 Shantytown was a hit too.

Statement as to the current state of the post-internet music biz, and noticing the eras of majority being posted here. Companies used to make gazillions, which trickled down and funded the search for the next Beatles or Elvis, naturally creating more misses than hits. This just doesn't happen anymore. No more mega budgets for recording or promo. I think there's some stat that there's no more platinum records? Rarely gold.
Guess I'm getting old but seem current biz is based more on nostalgia than anything cutting edge. Only way to make it as a band is tributes. So sick of them....and I have one! Gotta eat.

Aside from all that.....here's my contribution, pre-internet Tap!

Like Paul Carrack upthread, The Outsiders' lead singer, Sonny Geraci was a multiple one-hit-wonder with this one and Climax's "Precious and Few." He also subbed for the Grass Roots' lead singer and became an honorary member of that band.
