What are they and for what (practical) reason? For example, my favorite is Epiphone. The reason is they have a greater variety than either Fender or Gibson and definitely provide more bang for the buck than Gibson and most Fenders.

So, who is your favorite manufacturer?

Fender, both models are ones I grew up with, learning on, playing and modding.

My favorite electric guitar brand is the one that makes Telecasters and Stratocasters. I love single coils and the shape of these guitars.

At the moment I'm loving Fender, G&L, Chapman, and Guild - oh, and Harley Benton.

No matter how many other guitars I try, Fender strats and teles just have something that others don't.

G&L seems to me like the imaginative R&D dept that Fender ought to have but doesn't.

    Chapman because they look cool.

Guild because their P90 style pickups are the voice of the almighty. Nothing else in the world sounds better to me.

Harley because they are not just good for they money - they're just good.

Fender. I'm a fanboy. I like single coils, maple necks, the colors, the style, the heritage.

I don't really have favourite makes in electrics, it is mostly about specific models and pickup configurations, and weight is a big consideration. I'll nominate Warmoth, wherewith I could get what I want.

Taylor in factory acoustics, because of the way they are built, not because of tone. Also (older) Maton because of tone, robust build and good factory warranty and repair service.

I know this is not the answer you want, but the question is kind of like asking which of your children is your favorite :). I love them all.

Top tier, in order: Martin. Fender. Reverend.

Next tier, considerably lower: Gretsch (Bigsby a necessity here). Sigma (great cheapies!). Guild. Epiphone (when you get a good one: great value). Alvarez.

Gibson, way down here? Yeah. Overpriced, I think. And I find a lot of their acoustics sweet but muffly, and their electrics too hit-or-miss in quality to justify the prices.

Also, next, Rickenbacker. I like the idea and the jangle, but find them limited/limiting with those overskinny necks and often-thin pickups. They make great bass guitars, though.

Nothing else makes my radar. (I don't like Taylors (thin!), PRS's (body shapes, pretentiousness, etc.) But I have, I hope, a few more decades to fritter and find things.

But I may be adding one brand, maybe even to the top: ordering my first G&L tonight!

I'm so excited about ordering that G&L that I'm actually getting lots of paperwork today.

Started with Gibsons and didn't even look at a Fender until the 90's, not kidding. But then I went cuckoo. Besides all the biggies I like Danelectros. Man can they scorch the paint. I love them. I have a U1, U2 and a U3. They play easy and well and I know exactly what tone is coming out of mine. Hot.

Fender from way back when, but I'll admit I have a hankering for one of those Epi Wildkats.
