Setting aside the subtle springs, halls and plates...

What do you like for the really spacey stuff? I'm looking at the Walrus Slö or the Eventide Blackhole. What do you love?

Hands down Ventris Dual Reverb. It’s stupid the amount of ways to route signal, including cascading one reverb into the other or parallel.

I had this for a minute. It was fun for awhile, then I realized most reverbs at this level are Belton bricks.

{edit} Around the same time I was messing with this reverb, I was eyeing Death By Audio’s Reverberation Machine:

Modulated verbs like the DBA Rooms keep me interested..
But since I got a CXM1978...I don’t look at other reverbs (because I can’t afford another one! Lol)

Props to Caroline for pushing the capabilities of what one might do with that little processor.

How does the hof2 fit into this? Asking because I have on on route.

Don't play much ambient, but wondering nevertheless.

HOF was originally designed as a very versatile and traditional verb, but the addition of the sparkle and the mash control do give it some additional possibilities. I'm using the plate verb on my Zoom ms-50g for my standard verb, but now looking for some really ambient sounds for creative inspiration...also would like a sustain/hold button.

The reason I eventually bit off the Ventris is because it has two independent chips. The Lofi algorithm also copped distorted reverb sounds like once mentioned above. You can run a very accurate spring reverb into the lofi, vice versa, or run two amps each with different reverbs programs. It’s complete overkill EXCEPT when doing noise and ambient. If you want it trashy, then run it into a RAT. But if one wants a realistic hall or room, it’s already there.

Whatever gives you control over the mix and the tails is pretty useful. I've got a Hall of Fame and a Keeley Aurora. Both of those are very useful for me.

This pedal is very commonly-used by shoegazers who tend towards the ambient stuff. It has a very strong reputation.

That said, this pedal does not offer gated or reverse reverb modes - so if you are playing "MBV-style" shoegaze, it will not do the job.

    What is MBV-style?

Don't think I've ever played a gated reverb. Pretty sure my Ocean's 11 has a reverse though. Kind of sorry I let my Supernatural go...bought it from the guy who built my amps. He eventually started to miss it and I was eager to try something new, so I sold it back to him.

My Bloody Valentine. They used a lot of reverse reverb on the record Loveless and it’s kind of seminal shoegaze.

IIRC via internet nerdom, the gated and reverse reverb from an Alesis MidiVerb II rack unit was used on Loveless. The reverse setting on my Polara and DigiVerb kinda gets you there, but a Deluxe Memory Man w/ Hazarai, we a reverse decay, actually sounds closer.
