The Jim Jarmusch thread I'd started earlier this morning got me to thinking it might be kinda fun to share some of our favorite film directors
Here are a few off the top of my head:

    Coppola
    Scorcese
    Lynch
    Coen Bros
    Aronofsky
    Tarantino
    Robert Rodriguez
    Dario Argento
    Wes Anderson
    Ingmar Bergman
    Krzysztof Kieslowski

All fairly cinephile wannabe cliche choices, I do realize :D

    What are some of yours?

Michael Mann is a favorite of mine. Heat, The Insider, Collateral, and The Last Mohican are particular favorites.

I don't really keep up with the director credits much, so I am sure there are more I really like.

    Nice list, Blowtorch.
I would add Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock to it. And maybe Sergio Leone. And Orson Welles, for Kane and Touch of Evil.
    John Huston, sure. Billy Wilder.
Among those still working, David Fincher and, for some of his work, Clint Eastwood.
And by the way, my last name is Argento and I think Dario and I are distant cousins or something...

This isn’t something I think about at all but I do like Wes Anderson’s movies. David Lean is another. Speaking of film makers though, I'm reading "A Kim Jong-Il Production: The Extraordinary True Story of a Kidnapped Filmmaker, His Star Actress, and a Young Dictator's Rise to Power" right now though.

Surprised that David Cronenberg has not been mentioned yet.

Man, Cronenberg's stuff is good, but just so unsettlingly creepy. All that stuff that has to do with the body. I can't say that I enjoy his films. Although yeah he's very good at what he does.

I will add Terry Gilliam, though
