    Another vote for Cream, back in their prime.

    Since then, I enjoy listening to classic jazz trios, built around Nat "King" Cole,
    Oscar Peterson...

    There's also a Trio tradition in Latin music, blending voices and guitars with romantic songs, and the Trio Los Panchos were the masters of that form.
