Just wired up this squire to test out these two pickups in combination... Used a brand new good quality 3-way blade but it’s not working properly for some reason - I have to rattle it in order to made a full contact. Seems to be more problematic in the bridge setting. Otherwise it’s still sending signal through but very low so hence I have to rattle it to get full power. Anybody know what the problem is? Faulty switch or maybe soldering problem?

More likely a soldering problem than a faulty switch. Could be that some flux or solder got into the contacts on the switch when it was soldered.

Is the slot in the pickguard long enough to allow the switch full range of movement?

I would think a soldering issue would also affect the middle position, check that. look at the contacts close too
