Sold my Epi LP Signature, the new owner lives about 500km from me but this brother, who happens to own the same guitar, lives where we were playing this weekend. I met him before the gig to do the deal and he brought his own guitar along to compare. These are fairly rare guitars so I IMG_20191116_170953.jpg IMG_20191116_171013.jpg took a snap or two to show them together.
His is the version that's gold on the back and sides as well as the front, stunning guitar!

    Interesting oddities!
I've very seldom seen those models but understand Les liked them more; than his more popular Les Paul model.

Chicken head to switch the impedance, 50k, 250k 500k. Really bright, really warm, then dark.

Other chicken head for phase in/out when using both pickups together.

I worked in a pawn shop in Vancouver once, they had the Gibson version of one of these , I suspect it was a late 60's early 70's , I did not appreciated them then , boy was I an idiot!

They were made from 72-74 I think, one of the big guitar websites just ran an article about how they are now one of the next guitars to bring in big dollars. Gibson should reissue them, the Epis were nice but not totally authentic sonically

I had an honest-to-goodness Gibson Les Paul Signature back ~1977. It was my first "good" guitar, a big step up from the semihollow Epiphone I started on. I got a good deal on that LPS because they didn't sell well and this one had a few finish cracks on the back. After about a year, I sold it and put the money toward an LP Deluxe, because I was young and impressionable and none of my guitar heroes - or anyone, really - played a Signature. I don't recall the specs, but the neck seemed enormously wide. I could never get as much sustain from it as I wanted, but it sure had a versatile array of tone.

I think they are gorgeous guitars, just enough left of centre to stand out. My Epi wasn't a huge sustainer either, I never used the 500k setting, nor the out of phase setting, so thought I'd move it on to free up funds for something that I'll play more.. I'll post what I've bought with some of the funds when it arrives!

In 1977, mine spent a lot of time out-of-phase. That setting was great for disco and funk, which is where the money was that decade.

The USA Telecaster in my avatar is long gone. It's a reminder of what an idiot I was to get rid of it.

[IMG]Always though that the Wolfgang guitars looked a lot like those LP Signature models.

    I just saw a guy gigging a Signature....first time.
He had a Champ chassis in a bigger box pushing a 12.
    No headroom.
    Dirty and sweet, oh yeah!
    Great sound.

What would be the difference between the model with gold back and yours? Simply date of manufacture? Did they otherwise compare favorably?

Not sure, they also came in Sunburst, so possibly just different colour options

So you sold her. What did you buy?

Please don't tell us that you just sold her without buying something else. That's not the way it works!

Do we have to wait for the avatar?

    Cheers

    Well..

I was intending to replacing it with either an Eastman version of a 335, perhaps a Yamaha Revstar 502T, or a PRS P90 thing.. I've been test driving the Eastman and the Yammie, but they're not screaming "buy me!" just yet, though I know I'm gonna end up with at least one of these down the track. I'm the meantime, the other guitarist in the band just grabbed an Artist TC59, they are amazing for the pennies they cost so yesterday I pulled the trigger as an interim bit of fun, I'll probably turn it into an open E slider.

    It arrives thru the week
