Joe was born in Kansas, lived in Ohio in his youth, moved to NYC at 12, went to high school in Jersey, and attended the infamous Kent State during his college years. Since the 70s he's lived in southern California, so any of those places could claim him.

I'm from the SF Peninsula, so the number of famous musicians from that area, and if you include the rest of California, would probably eclipse even NY, Texas and Florida.

    Do Bass Players Count?

Carl Radle - Eric Clapton's Bass player in several bands (Derek and the Dominos).

I went to the same high school as Carl and we graduated the same year. He died 40 years ago and I haven't yet.

California is a big state for guitarist too as is New York and you would think more from Tennessee, but many just tend to move there. Musicians also crowded Austin TX for a long time but most of them were also born in Texas too.

    Oh and who could forget:
    The guitarist from Live
The guitarist from the Dead Milkmen
The guitarist from Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians, presumably

You know, famous guitarists from PA are a bit thin on the ground, actually

And Darryl Stuermer of Genesis, Phil Collins, Jean Luc Ponty bands. Stanley Jordan is from Chicago, but he sure played a lot in Milwaukee and Madison in the late 70s and early 80s.

    Hahaha

Who, Jerry Garcia and Carlos Santana?
Sure there's tons of others... but not a whole lot I care about. Except maybe Tim Armstrong. I know it's only my opinion. But most of the guitar players from the bay area are from elsewhere. Most Texas, New York and "the rest of CA" players are home grown.

Big fan of the bay area scene though.

My neighbor. I have only seen him once offstage in 17 years and he lives a half mile away from me.

I was born and lived in Kalamazoo for 30 years, so it was great to see so many players from Michigan.

    Here's a few more:
    Motown - Ronald White
Willie Woods from Junior Walker and the Allstars
    Tommy James and Larry Coverdale
Dick Wagner and Don Hartman from the Frost

    Nobody piping in from AZ?

Here's a few you've heard of, leaving out George Benson because he achieved fame back east before moving here to the Grand Canyon State. Same can be said for a few of these as well, but they lived in AZ:

    Glen Campbell
    Duane Eddy
    Waylon Jennings
    Buck Owens
    Linda Ronstadt
