Relicing is when you had lice, got rid of them, and then got more.

Relic'ing on the other hand is fake wear.

How do you do 100 likes?

Even if u like relic, why wud u pay someone else to abuse your new guitar? Are u that incapable?

Haha.... I was going to say 'incompetent', but if u were incompetent u'd be good at relicing.

I feel like I've read this exact thread 500 times at least. If you don't like relics you don't have to have one, nobody in this world is forcing anyone to buy a relic guitar. The same as nobody is forcing you to buy a red guitar, a black guitar or a sunburst guitar. A relic finish is just that, a type of finish that some people like and others don't.

Like "panicking," the spelling should be "relicking" ...but then you have an interpretation problem. :p

We've read this thread many times, yes, but rarely one so saturated with grammatical and spelling errors. This one is special in that regard.

Cool idea for a business. Of course, the relic Tele is the only one that happens to be sold out on their website. Apparently it’s what everyone thinks a Tele needs to look like these days.

I hate relic guitars. It's like people dressing up as soldiers with fake medals to pretend something they are not. Stolen valor. They're like Chibsons or Chenders, fake guitars for people who can't afford the real thing. I don't adhere that guitars should remain pristine, they are tools to be used and as such they will get their fair share of nicks and dents and scratches. Like scars they will tell a story, my story. When you have a guitar that's with you for decades and you see every nick and dent you feel, old friend, we've been through a lot together, didn't we? But if I buy a guitar, I want it to be a clean slate. Unless its a 2nd hand guitar. In which case there will be some dents and history associated.

Yeah, but a worn neck feels so great is what I hear a lot. Well, maybe that is a sign that you shouldn't cover necks in lacquer and poly? Bare wood feels best to the hand, with at best a light oil finish for protection.

My wife just bought me a new pair of jeans that I won't wear - they are solid dark color. I hate that and prefer a faded, broken-in look, which is what I buy when I get jeans for myself, it's a preference.

I see nothing at all wrong with having the same preference with guitars. While some prefer a shiny brand new look, others don't. I'm fine with either and I think the whole argument against someone's preference is moronic.

I'm actually the opposite. I will only buy jeans in a dark, uniform color. When they wear on their own, they look totally different from (and to my tastes, better than) the store bought fade.

But it's all just personal aesthetics.

i prefer a very thin lacquer finish on neck and body and play the hell out of it
relcing a poly finish never looks quite right anyway

I overheard a guy in a late night restaurant tellings his pals "I know all the chords on a guitar" ...I bet he'd love a relic...

Well, all I can say is that I'm old and trying to look young and cool, so that might be a factor...

You guys are relentless on this relic topic. It’s actually pretty sad and like mentioned in the growing 7 page thread asking advice on “how to relic” that the topic relic should be banned from this site.

I think it would be a good idea. Just gets people wound up on the topic and bashing other members. I thought thread was going to go in a different direction but once that nasty word is released, the keyboard warriors come out.
