What is relicing but fake wear so why not use fake relicing. I’m sure the paint techniques used by Bob Ross could create fake wear that would be convincing at 10 feet away. Then when you get tired of it or it goes out of fashion just clean it off and have a nice guitar
(Yeah I know relicing is spelled wrong in the title but I don’t know how to change it)

Good idea. You might be able to use clingy plastic even. Ask to play your buddy's guitar, sick one on and hand it back. Fun fun.

I never got relicing any way , a well played 40 year old guitar is a relic anyway

Relicing is fake, that's the whole point (not that there's anything wrong with it)

Sure it’s fake so why not make it temporary as well
If you don’t like how it turned out just clean it off and try again

Billy and Dusty from ZZ Top have been playing matching instruments whose finishes were based on a red Telecaster with severe water damage...

the finishes are actually “wraps”, large decals much like what is used to put business graphics on cars and trucks...

I wonder if a graphics/banner shop could make such a thing for a guitar.

There certainly is no shortage of fake “reliving” on this forum.

I'm a fake relic, and I can vouch for the fact that it really works. I'm actually young, handsome, and buff, but -- just to get more respect -- I have created and live a highly credible persona of an out-of-shape old guy in cargo shorts. :)

Oh, and it's not too late to correct your thread title ...

That documentary on ZZ top was actually really good and those matching guitars looked so cool. Didn’t know it was a wrap. Cool

Well they kind of already do. [IMG]

I mean it looks like natural relic'ing right? Looks just like the real bullet holes on my guitar.

    pretty tight pattern, there...

Those decals last seen on an automobile body, where that kind of tearing is consistent w/ bullet going through sheet-metal body.
A wooden body's reaction to heavy firepower? Probably splinters everywhere.

I think there’s a lot wrong with it, but that’s my opinion. I buy a new car, I don’t take a sander to one of the fenders and hammer a few dents in it to make it look “old.” Just makes me sick to see a beautiful new guitar like the Brad Paisley Tele with part of the glitter finish sanded off in order to pretend it’s worn. To each his own, but I will never understand this.

I agree ... I'm perfectly capable of damaging my own guitar ...

    I don't need any help ...

People do exactly that with rat rods, I saw a fiberglass bodied coupe with a fake rust hole.

I think i understand a bit more now, you wish to "un-relic: new word?" your guitar later on? Sounds fine to me. Stickers maybe?

Relics are a waste of money, in my view, and a travesty to beat up a nice new instrument.
