Misattributed quotes are one thing...they are the shallow end of the pool...the real problem is that much more important things are being decided by memes that are used to gather people into various ideologies that have real world consequences and people just latch onto them as if they are true simply because they trigger an emotion that makes it feel like it's true. Strange days indeed.

The quotes in the OP aren't being attributed to the people in the pictures. Someone just thought the pics illustrated the quotes well. Others in the thread are purposeful misattributions. There's a difference. Just sayin'.

I think just the opposite. I think gullible people see quotes, believe they’re accurate and it informs their decisions and opinions. Memes are expressions what people already think.

As Abraham Lincoln once said to Colonel Mustard in the library, “Haters gonna hate.” I think that explains a lot.

It visually implies that Reeves said this, and too many people make that assumptive jump very casually. It's all just a small part of that gigantic iceberg of dishonesty that comes at everyone from all sides.

I think Mark Twain and Einstein are way misquoted.

You're going to drive yourself nuts trying to correct everything that's erroneous on the internet.

This statement really gets me. Its one thing to say Einstein said it - which he didn't. Totally another when people actually say it IS the definition of insanity... get yourself a dictionary!

No I'm not, I'm not "trying to correct everything that's erroneous on the internet".

By pointing out the BS of some of these things, perhaps the poster of this kind of crap, who I am an acquaintance of, will give it a little thought before accepting this stuff at, literally, face value. It only takes a minute or two to check these things out before allowing oneself to be a 'useful tool' for the charlatans creating these things.

It never occurred to me that the famous person was anything more than clickbait.
They are supposed to have actually said the phrase?
    Nawwwww!

Those drive me crazy too. I used to take ones like “if you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best” and “to all the girls who think you’re ugly because you’re not a size 0, you are beautiful, it’s society who is ugly” over pictures of Burt Mustin and Floyd the Barber.
