That success lies in your kitchen

I'm working from home also. My eating habits are much better.
yep
all that unhealthful crap at the grocery store?
Leave it on the shelf

want a delicious snack? cherries, plantains, carrots, clementines, mixed nuts, broccoli crowns, blueberries
etc

make this your norm and you can have that pizza once in awhile no issues

Eat healthy and exercise, it works for most people. As Zig Ziegler used to say, “You didn’t get fat by taking pills, you aren’t going to get skinny by taking pills.” I don’t know anyone who kept the weight off by these ridiculous fad diets. Eat healthy and exercise, I’m down 40 lbs. for almost 20 years. No crazy diets, no pills, no starving myself, just a little common sense.

I do great doing keto. My numbers when I get bloodwork done are usually better.

I've been on a keto diet for almost a year and have lost 45 pounds. My blood pressure and blood sugar are now normal and I'm off all the meds I used to be on. Skeptics told me I would never be able to stick with it but I've had no problem doing it. I've hit a bit of a plateau as far as shedding pounds. I'd still like to drop another 10, and I think if I just get out and walk a bit more i can make that happen.

In the news last week, a 36 yr study tracking people's diet, found that eating a Medditerean diet of fruit, vegetables and olive oil added 20% longer lifespan.

We eat according to the Medditerean diet, no food preservatives, and can fruit, jams, tomato paste, juice and salsas in the growing season.

We both walk as much as we can and train in Taekwondo in a seniors course I developed for balance, break falls, self defense, combat and getting up off the ground unattended. This is at the white belt beginners level. All movements are slow like Tai Chi, to strengthen muscles, cardio, flexibility and increase joint movement.

World Taekwondo is working towards Para Olympics competition for people who are disabled in body but not the mind.

Edit: context.

By definition, diet is whatever you eat. Just like behavior is whatever you do.

Hmmm... but could there be ... another definition? Webster's...

diet

a vegetarian diet
b

c

d

going on a diet
2

Their imaginations feverish from a diet of detective novels …—The New Yorker

Yeah, but in other posts you've demonstrated common sense and an open mind. Doesn't that bring some stress at times? Oh, wait, I see you do exercise too.

I agree that diet plays the biggest role when it comes to weight control. Exercise is in 2nd place. But don't forget that we all are different. Some people can lose weight easily, while others have to take a big effort. In case you are in the last group and don't see any weight loss results, it is better to find out more about your metabolic rate to better plan your weight loss regime. I found a good article about it here https://betterme.world/articles/resting-calories/, maybe it will be useful for someone.

I will preface this by stating that I am neither a dietician or coach and if you found a diet that works for you, congrats and stick with what you are doing. And, maybe my rant has more to do with marketing departments than any other thing.

It is diet season for those who like to be disappointed with not living up to their New Years resolution to lose meaningful weight, so the ads are all over the place. I had this whole screed I planned to write, complete with real life examples and a heavy dose of sarcasm, but scaled it back because…well, just because. You’re welcome!

But, in my simple way of thinking, why buy into a fad when the success to your diet doesn’t depend in the slightest on falling for slick marketing and scripted testimonials? Why buy that miracle pill or have that lap band installed if you have no real plan to keep that weight off? That success lies in your kitchen, what you do while wearing sneakers, and your own willpower related to how badly you want to shed pounds and keep them off. Nobody has lost weight by drinking some overpriced miracle formula and sitting in front of the TV for 14 hours a day watching diet pill commercials. For what my in-laws have spent on fad/miracle diets with no success, they could have bought me Joe Bonamasa’s guitar and amp collection. Maybe Steve Stills collection, as well.

What brought this all to mind is that while watching the morning news before heading out the door, a diet commercial comes on and in small letters across the bottom reads “Best results if combined with proper diet & exercise”. Isn’t diet & exercise simply what has been told to us forever when it comes to weight loss or am I wrongly viewing all this through jaded glasses?
Almost everything being sold to you will not benefit you in the way the ads say it will.

I lift weights 3x a week with the wife. We do 6-7 programs, 3 sets of 15 reps on each. Finish with 75 ab crunches. We eat 2 meals per day and do the 16-8 diet, whereas we eat both meals in a 8 hour window.
