And, for the wrong handed people out there that write backwards.
Broken Hearts Are For F-Holes
I learn so much here
Mine would be A,s.
Perhaps at some point a dyslexic luthier made an acoustic and ...
That's called a "Cat Eye" and is a Rickenbacker trademark.
Willie Johnson , very nice indeed ... custom? ... for ... Gypsy Jazz?
The "f" hole is actually from a time when the letter "f" did look more like an S. It dates back to violins, violas, cellos and such.
So it really is an S-hole
I either just call them "sound holes" or put them on my ignore list.
yrs ago..made an oblong plywood hollow...cut an A shape in "soundboard"......it sounded awful...kept the neck n good bits...burned rest
NO MORE RICCYS..PLEEEEASSEEE.i had to sell my last one to keep from destitution...if i see another one,,..probably start to cry
some proper soundholes
I picked a used JF-1 a couple of years ago at GC for $199. Still had the plastic film on the pickguard. The pickups are really hot. I don't play it much because it doesn't exactly twang, but it can flat out rock and roll. I like it as is enough that I'm not sure that I want to go swapping pickups. Although, I'd probably gig with it more if it had some Lollar Imperials in it.
I played Viola as a kid (closest I could get to school music program of guitar) and the notches/points at the center of the F is where you line up your bridge, since the 1500s.... Guitar builders ignore that feature, probably because
F sound holes on guitars are too large and much too out of proportion to the body size where they often look ridiculous. Classical stringed instruments were sized using Golden Ratios.
Gotta throw these holes in:
Back to cursive writing. If you look at documents done in the late 1700's like the Declaration of Independence, you'll see that when there was a "double s", the second one looked like an "f" and different from the first "s".
The design goes back to early bowed stringed instruments such as the violin through the double bass.
F Hole v. Cat’s Eye
Yeah, I've only had mine about a week and I love it. I had considered replacing the pickups, but considering what a pain it would be, and also considering that the stock pickups are actually pretty good, I think I'll leave it alone. The neck feels perfect.
