I thought this was some kind of joke but the hardware modifications make it look like it was intentional. I cannot figure out a legitimate reason for it. I found it on a Facebook page but the keyboard warrior factor created over 100 responses insulting GC and humanity in general without any speculation on what the purpose is. There has to be a reason for this even if it's a failed attempt.

My first guess on its purpose would be shock value for social media.

People do all kinds of weird stuff like that, usually when drunkenly chasing tone.

For example, here's the headstock on my '63 Strat. The previous owner not only swapped in new tuners because "vintage tuners won't stay in tune" but drilled an extra hole in the headstock to get it to balance better.

Maybe they put the D or G string on the wrong post and didn’t realize it until a few strings were cut too short. Rather than buy a new set of strings they just did what they could to make it work

Maybe they thought it was a way to get the behind the nut bend on Iron Man?

There is a special place in hell for some upgrades.

That's a lot of trouble to go to. If it was just the strings, that would make the most sense. The locking clamp on the nut for the 6th string and the machined saddle mounted on the 5th tuner would make it a lot of effort.

Not likely. There was a lot of effort put into the mods on the nut and mounting that saddle on the 5th tuner.

If I didn't know better, it looks like he is trying to train the headstock to tilt to the left.

Man, wtf?!? There should be some kind of guitar police that would send people who do this kind of criminal acts to jail

My grandpa’s buddy had a 50’s tele with that same headstock hole. He did it so he could hang it on the wall. Yep. On a nail. He wasn’t no dummy, and wasn’t about to spend good money on a dedicated guitar wall hanger.

...to try to correct a neck twist?

I’m leaning toward shock value, though.
