This is the first time I have spent $1800 on a guitar, Fender Ultra Tele, it looks beautiful, Texas tea, but I have some issues, the neck shifted but I was able to align it so the high E string at the 12 the fret is the same distance to the fretboard edge as the low E but looking at the 5th fret the high E seemed a little closer to the edge compared with low E string. I think the problem is at the nut in which the groove that the hi E sits is cut 1/64 inch closer to fretboard edge compared to low E. this may or may not affect playability. Also one of the 4 screwd that hold the neck in place is stripped it won't tighten but the neck stays in place. The hi E string sounds weak so I raised the action and that helped but sometimes it doesn't seem to have the volume the other strings have. Anyway to be honest I was expecting a perfect guitar for $1800, am I unrealistic?

That stripped screw in the neck would bother me. I'd dump it if I could.

No, not unrealistic at all. Sometimes people (me) will purposely look for small imperfections that will become an obsession. However, I don't think even the stripped neck screw is a small imperfection. At that price, the guitar should be immaculate!

All right thank you both of you. What about the issue with the nut? It's off 1/64th, my MIM strat is perfect.

I'd send it back and get one from a shop that you know does some setup work before they ship things.

I would not expect those problems from even a mid-price guitar, they should do better. If you can return it, if not, plan on spending some coin to have the guitar set up properly and the neck screw fixed.

No I got it at sweetwater, it hasn't been 30 days. I thought I'd save $100 going thru them.

Send it back for a refund or a replacement. If you get a replacement tell them to make certain it's flawless before shipping it to you.

Weird flex, but ok. Maybe English isn't OP's native language. Maybe it was a typo. Maybe it doesn't matter because it still effectively communicated the idea he was trying to convey.

At that sort of money I’d expect everything to be perfect. That stripped screw is a no no - send it back.

No, you're not expecting too much. I would remember that human beings make these guitars and human beings aren't perfect. More important to me is what they do to correct their mistakes. Sweetwater will take care of you.

The most expensive guitar I ever bought (although I got it at a 60% discount) had exactly the kind of issues I would not expect at that price point.

I kept it, although it needed some redrilling of stripped holes for strap pins and pickguard screws, because it plays and sounds wonderful. But there are still some ongoing wiring niggles.

If I'd paid full price for it? I don't know if I'd have kept it, but I wouldn't have been happy.

I wonder if it's a final assembly thing? The guys putting the last bits in place are human and lose focus . . . and we get guitars with niggly problems.

On the one hand, I do think you’re expecting too much out of a factory made mass-produced guitar. But at the same time, Sweetwater supposedly checks the guitars pretty thoroughly. And admittedly, even though it is expecting too much for something to be perfect, personally if I’m spending that much dough, I do want pretty near perfection.

So, yeah, if you can return it and try again, do that.
