There are many players who use standard tuning, I haven't kept track of which along the way though.

IMO, it doesn't get much better than the touch and tone of Mick Taylor here.

He just kind of 'milks' the 12th fret G chord position on 12th fret ( strings 2/3/4) then goes up to high G and D notes on 15th fret...simple and beautiful

The 2nd solo ( non slide).just burns!

- Standard tuning, pinky player, glass slide, Les Paul ( Ampeg amps?) and Mick- perfect!

Duane Allman used standard tuning for some of his slidework.

Generally speaking, you can tell when he's standard tuned as it's a bit more melodic and riff driven.

If you know the sound(s) of opened tuned slide playing, and how it works, you can hear the difference.

Of course George Harrison used standard tuning, almost exclusively.

Joe Walsh is another that uses standard tuning for his slide work.

imo.

I've recently got into JD Simo who plays a lot of standard tuning slide and one of his heroes was Earl Hooker who played Standard too.

Whilst not strictly in Standard tuning a lot of Lowell George from Little Feats work was only one or two strings retuned (song depending) I think and he played standard at times too.
