I'm definitely still at "pre hipster"....
I feel like I am De-evolving!
Yep. Someone asks me "what do you know?" and I say "less and less, all the time!"
Some where between Propiapithicus, and Homo Sapiens, with a dash of, Neadertalis, Australopthicus (Boisie, Afarensis, & Robustus) and all the associated knuckle walkers but definately NO PILTDOWN MAN, I hate those buggers, thats on my fathers side, On my MOMS side Celt, Druid, Viking, Jacobites and Scot.
Oh yeah I'm a product of the 60's
...what was the question?....
....about 1:04, the grey hair...
Is that Tommy Lee Jones at 1:02?
Aiming for this . . .
Cro-Magnon at best.
It's interesting to me that the guy who winds up at the end of the animation as representing the pinnacle of evolution of our species (to this point) is portrayed as very obviously Caucasian.....that, to me, seems a bit...mmmm.....what would the word be....??...oh well...who cares, right...the point is that anyone who shares these physical attributes, like myself, can feel good in the knowledge that we represent the pinnacle of evolutionary achievement....hooray for me and everyone that looks like me!!
im fully evolved...thats not saying much for evolution
If it ended with a black dude I'm certain some folks would take offense, so they went with a white guy. A certain segment of the population would call it "racist" either way.
Why not a woman, is what I was wondering.
I think this is probably true - I can see people from both sides taking offense either way. But I was surprised that they went for such a strongly differentiated final result. They could have gone for "racially ambiguous man"
Or they could make it a woman? Anything that ends with Rashida Jones is cool with me.
.... my comment was made in the context of how the predecessors of the last guy were portrayed in the very same animation...and knowing that the birthplace of humans was Africa it seems just a bit interesting (if not incongruous) to me that the endpoint of the animation was chosen to be him....it's not like there weren't other legitimate representations of the 'pinnacle', right? And the funny thing for me is that before it got to the last guy I just had a gut feeling of what that guy was going to look like....
I'm not saying that this is the vilest thing in the world but it's just an interesting thing on how biases are displayed....even in something that's supposed to be representative of the 'objective' undertakings of science.
Yes...exactly my thoughts...someone at least 'ambiguous' as you've suggested..I thought that too.....and why not a woman?
Like I say, not saying this is a vile, despicable animation BUT it does point out something interesting and maybe worth noting and being aware of......for me at least.
Doesn't look at all Asian.
I tried, but google image search didn't return anything perfect right away. This was the best result I got.
I think the "guy at the end" is the artist.
