Trees may get lonely. They communicate w each other by chemical vapors that tell when they're being attacked by fungus or beetles etc so they can begin their defenses before the infestation. Other kinds of info exchange occurr as well it's hypothesized. Maybe missing any kind of communication would make them lonely.

Haven't you heard of Weeping Willows ?

It has happened countless times. The evidence is all over the ocean floor.

The important thing to realize when you see all these scientific articles is...

Nothing is static, the universe, our galaxy, our solar system, our planet.

Things are always changing, have changed and will change.

Why people think we live in a time capsule is very funny to me.

Climate change, solar flares etc. They have always happened and always will continue to happen and we don't really have a say in it.

If you want to worry about something, worry about a massive solar storm or a terrorist launched EMP attack.

There's evidence that around the same time as the Comet strikes circa 12,000 years ago, solar flares hit earth. The plasma melted rocks !

At the proper moment everyone with a directional cable will have to flip the cables around.

On the plus side of a reversal , Earth's north pole and a magnets north pole will be the same.

The magnetosphere is Earth's magnetic field reaching out into space, protecting us and our things from cosmic rays, solar storms and other dangerous particles that space is full of. Without an active magnetic metallic core, it's likely Earth may have never developed life on the surface of the planet.
The military industrial complex is concerned because, without the right magnetosphere, all those spy satellites and communication (TV, internet, cell phone) satellites may come crashing down, or just stop working. Ecologists and environmental experts are also alarmed, because we're not sure how a messed up magnetic field will affect insect migration or marine mammal/ large marine predator behavior. That affects crop pollination and commercial fishing world-wide. Could also accelerate global climate change.

This is why it's a good idea for scientists to advise leaders on the subject, and not leave it up to Joe Average, who is only worried about his 401K and property taxes.

This matters less and less to modern man as we move away from navigating with a compass toward GPS. For what it’s worth, I’ve been to two airports lately that updated runway headings for pilots of aircraft still navigating by compass. The pilot sets his compass to the runway heading before taking off. It doesn’t matter much for short distances but it matters more when flying a polar route. BTW, what’s happening now is the normal wandering of the magnetic poles. It won’t affect pickups, single coil or buckers.

It is the Joe worrying about his 401K and property taxes that make the keepers of the universe possible. Isn't it odd, we had several thousand years without them, but now they are invaluable.

Another question for the keepers of the universe. If the magnetic fields go completely kaput, what exactly are they going to do about it. This just in from the keepers of the universe:

This particular Joe Average right here is certainly glad that somebody is looking into it! :D

Plus I think it's a cool accident that such a record should be unearthed like this. It's like a free sample of Earth history!

"Lonely" has several meanings. One of them is "solitary". FYI.

the reversal doesn't take thousands of years when it happens, it apparently happens in a very short period of time. there is a whole branch of science called paleomagnetism that studies this. we are overdue for a flip, and no one knows what the effects will be on civilization. suffice to say that anything associated with computer, or satellite, or radio, or TV, or GPS or for that matter anything electronic... everything civilian and military, everywhere in the world and in space will be affected to some degree. this event is not "Y2K". its something that needs to be taken seriously
