I rarely hear anyone do a Jazzmaster demo that sounds any good to me.

I love a well-played Strat, but they sound terrible when I play them.

I was never a Tele fan, but I picked up a Squier CV mahogany Thinline a couple of years ago, and after some mods, I can’t put it down.

So what the heck is up with this?

I watched the reveal. Even after that and listening through headphones and recording monitors, I still can’t tell which is which!

Is everything I think I know about single coil Fenders just based on appearances, and the type of players that gravitate toward the different models?

Yeah, this is why I really only pay attention to looks on guitars and play what looks the coolest to me at that time. I'll hear something and think that was definitely recorded with a ______. And then it's like a Gibson 335 or something completely off the wall.

Landon makes great content. Super nice guy as well. Bought some gear off him last year when he was looking to upgrade to newer stuff.

I guessed the Tele correctly when I heard the bridge pickup with gain. In other words, I muttered to myself “I’m pretty sure that’s the Tele.”

I got the Tele, I was undecided on the Stat/JM because the JM sounded so good in the middle. Of course this all depends on which pickup set you have for each...

If you play guitars for yourself, and think they offer different sounds, does that mean reality is fooling you and what you really need to figure it out is a youtube video?

I wouldn’t go that far, but I did grow up long before the internet.

I desperately longed for a Marshall stack and a Gibson Les Paul as a teenager, because Clapton and Jimmy Page both played them.

It was a quite a while before I discovered that Zep 1 was mostly recorded with a tele and a practice amp, and that Clapton had recorded a lot of my favourite cuts with an SG or a semi-hollow...

I've been playing my Telecaster almost exclusively for the last year. When I plugged in a Strat for the first time in months, the in-between positions jumped out at me: maybe some of you can get those sounds on a Tele, but I've never heard them on mine.

That tele sounds so dark. My tele sounds more like his jazzmaster.

I think 90 percent of ‘tone’ is response. As in how you respond to whatever. I’ve not played a jazz master. I like teles and strats. Yet I reckon I can sound like a Tele with a jazz master.

Well I have a Tele and a Jazzmaster which I use pretty interchangeably on gigs so I’m not surprised really. I keep the tone down a bit on the JM because otherwise the bridge pickup can loosen people’s fillings...
In fact I wasn’t sure about the JM because the middle position on mine sounds more Tele-ish.

How do you get 2 out of three? o_Oo_Oo_O

I also got the Tele and Jazz back to front.
Were the tone settings all dialled to 10?

I got them right easily enough, but there really wasn't as much difference as I thought there would be.

Having said that, I still can't make a strat sound good in my hands . . .

There was a recent thread about "What pickups do I need to sound like Mike Campbell?" and I advised the OP to watch a few vids of Tom Petty and the boys playing live. Mike sounds like Mike all the way through 10 guitar changes during a show. There's really not much difference in his tone. This is true for most players that have been doing it a while.

The guitar is responsiblle for probably somewhere around 15-20% of the noise that comes from the speakers. The rest is the amp(s) and the player.

I got em right from the neck pickups alone

jazz has a mosrite sort of scooped sound like a really old country guitar, tele has more bass and a brass cover probably that takes off high end, and strat is like a narrower version of a tele neck but with no cover

    the middles confuse things
