just a few basic chords going through a hiwatt DR-103. 1st riff - bridge pickup. 2nd riff - middle position. 3rd riff - neck. riffs from songs I have written in the past. I love the sound especially the middle position and bridge. what do you think?

riff 1 was the bridge which is the lipstick riff 2 was in the middle lipstick and neck riff 3 was just the neck. the neck pickup is a seymour duncan STR-3 quarter pound. the lipstick tube is a cheap generic but very nice Alnico V with a tele base plate conversion

I've found that many love the look of the lipstick, but might not realize how weak and bright it is. For the right player, it is wonderful, as long as they aren't expecting it to sound like a Strat or Tele pickup.

I’m impressed you have a Hiwatt. I have heard they are super loud, but clearly amazing!

    .

I had very low expectations of Lipstick pickups until a summer local concert where a player used a Danelectro with lipstick humbuckers and the guitar was impressive.

Another change from expectations was a Teisco Tulip guitar I picked up, repaired the neck on this 5.5lb guitar, and didn't expect the the tone was like a good Jazzmaster yet meatier than I'd thought it could be. Here's a link after I finished the repairs, less artfully played, neck/bridge/series with clean and then drive.

Key point is there are surprisingly good pickups out there.

Remember that Jimmy Page used a Danelectro DC with Lipstick Tubes on Kashmir and a couple other good songs.
Just about any pickup can sound good if the heights, electronics and settings are right.

There's 2 Danelectro Hodad guitars(with 2 lipstick tube humbuckers) for sale on Memphis CL right now that are very tempting.

great thing about living in the middle of nowhere in sweden now is that you can crank an amp at any time of night, I might make the cows moo but that's it for complaints

    I don't know, :( I don't know, o_O I don't know, I just don't know, but ..... Denny Walley,
plays but teles and mostly Danos, maybe I think he knows.
Dig the Dano that he's playing in this clip, I saw the Beefheart band with prince of slide guitar , Denny playing a Dano cut like this one, rare , as is his style and grace when putting it down.
Does that sound like a Tele? this does @ 2:34

    this sounds like a Dano:

    I don't know, ;) I don't know, I don't know, I just don't know, but .....

The Lipstick Tube Pickups in that bottom pic look a lot bigger than the original pickups.

No, they are big, bigger than a strat pu, plus the camera angle.

However, that Bellzouki has been refinished plus new pickguard and knobs.

They have really cheap lipsticks on the Walmart website for <$15. You might be able to get an idea from one of those.

    Dear god, no...

I love me some lipstick pickups, but el cheapo ones aren’t doing anyone any favours. They were inexpensive to produce back in the day, but modern “inexpensive” construction is not the same. Cheap ones have bobbins, smaller magnets, thinner wire... I have heard several brands, and they range in sound quality. I can’t imagine anything from “Yosoo” or “Lyumu” for $12 is going to be anywhere but the low end of that range.

Charlie Starr of Blackberry Smoke has a Tele shaped guitar with a P-90 in the bridge and a lipstick at the neck.
    Works for him.
    Can't be a bad thing.
