Tom Anderson

Well known for his top end guitars, mainly Strat types with the "drop top". Very expensive compared to Fender and in my opinion not worth the extra dosh. Taking nothing away from them, they are great guitars but it's the "worth the money" argument again.

supposed to be great

Never tried one but there was an issue of Guitar Player Magazine and two different Tom Anderson finished 1 and 2 in the "Tele Shootout" beating 52RI, Nashville and MIA standard among about 15 others as I recall. Pete Anderson plays 'em. He oughta know.

Not cheap though

Excellent high-end guitars with a caveat

Pete Anderson plays them and I certainly won't argue with him. I haven't played one but they have an excellent reputation as high-end guitars. I looked into purchasing one from a dealer but decided not to (I can buy/build 2-3 guitars for about the same price). The only drawback may be resale value. Similar to a car, they can lose value quickly once you leave the dealer and you submit to the whims of the resale market.

Played a "hollow-T" at a local music shop a few months ago. It was beautiful.

It was also REALLY heavy. It was also REALLY expensive--just over $2000.

The neck felt nice, and the pups sounded good. On the other hand, in no way did it evoke "Tele."

I'm sure it's a solid gigging guitar and pretty versatile, but it generated no excitement from me. Mike makes a great point about there being no bridge plate.

Great guitar? Yeah, I suppose. Great Tele? No way.

As always, only MHO, YMMV, etc.

I own an Anderson Hollow T

It is a great playing nad sounding guitar. Mine is setup just like the one Pete Anderson has played with Dwight Yoakem for tha past several years.
Hollow ash o ash body finished in a "Mary Kay" color with a tele pickup at the bridge and a strat pickup in the mid and neck positons.
The fit on finish on the guitar is as good as it gets and the neck and fretwork are the best I have played.

I met a good friend though an Anderson "T" that he was selling. He changed his mind about selling it, and although we remain friends, I'd like him better if he'd sell that damn guitar to me. It plays better than ANY Tele I've ever played/owned, and sounds mighty fine. The bridge pickup is a little different, but I suspect the bridge assembly has as much to do with that as the pickup. The neck pickup kills and the in between settings are very good. I believe his had a tummy cutaway, which was very comfortable.

Some people don't dig a guitar that's not a Fender and just can't appreciate any guitar that doesn't have the Fender decal on the headstock. I believe some of these people would rather play a poorly set up Fender than a well set up Anderson/Grosh/Suhr/Melancon/Tyler guitar, just because they perceive the other guitars as lacking soul or mojo or whatever. Do yourself a favor and check out some of these other guitars. You'll never know until you've played one.
