Stumbled across some interesting pics of a George Lynch show (formerly of Dokken and Lynch Mob) and lookie what I found:

(link removed)

Check the gallery pages out-- pages 2 & 3 have some awesome shots of him & the Esquire.

I love how he has a piece of paper w/ the "ESP" logo over the Fender logo on the headstock. Is that one kick-butt Esquire or what? I'd love to know what year, etc. it is.

BTW, the photographer takes some awesome pics!

Ole Fuzzy-
Sumn tells me that he could afford a shirt iffn he wanted to, but he had to show off that he was workin out at the gym n such... at least his hair looks normal nowadays compared to how it looked in the 80's:

I'd much rather see him rockin' with an esquire or tele. I'd love to hear how some of his stuff w/ Dokken and Lynch Mob sound through that Esquire!

Hmmm, Esquire + Soldano = rockin' like Dokken

Yeah, I'm with Ole Fuzzy all the way! Eweeeeeeeewe!!!!!!!

Regarding the second post, well lets just say that I'm glad that the 80's is now part of history!

Even the kinds of guitars used im them days with hockeystick headstocks are refeard to as "donald duck guitars" among my friends and in my family! They probably plays great and sounds awsome but Eweeeeeeeewe!!!!!!!

LOL--- Aside from the single humbucker strat shape, I too look back on those guitars and just cringe at most of them--- a tele is just so much more classic-- they look as cool as they did 50 years ago, which unfortunately can't be said about the kamikaze guitars, Dime Bag Dean guitars, B.C. Rich, and whatnots from the 80's.

I've learned to look past the "shirtless George" to admire the Esquire rocking out in true hard rock fashion. That reminds me, I need to grab a white pickguard for my esquire (the black is nice, but white may set it off a bit more).

I think someone should give him a Performance Enhancing Drug test.

Those now and then photos look like the one's you see of Barry Bonds...

LOL. From what I hear, he spent alot of time after Dokken/Lynch Mob really getting into bodybuilding, even won some amateur contests. I can't speak to any performance enhancing drugs, but if he was as passionate about bodybuilding as he was guitar, then I'm sure the big guns were hard earned and not due to doping. etc.

When I saw Dokken on the reunion tour in 95, George's arms were huge-- I think he had a problem w/ finger dexterity for a while (at least that's how it looked on stage) because his forearm muscles had gotten so big.

For those that say "Eeeewweeeee!" at the shirtless pics, here are some better ones where George spared us the gun show and put on a t-shirt:

He got into weight lifting after his time with Dokken, and I remember reading articles with him being into natural bodybuilding. If he was juicing he'd be a lot bigger than that. Those pointy headstock guitars are pretty horrendous looking, but I had a few when I was into Dokken, VH, Ratt, Iron Maiden etc when I was young. I actually always thought George Lynch a pretty good player out of that era. Dokken had some good stuff for the genre.

As for dexterity I'm VERY into weightlifting/bodybuilding myself, and it has never adversely affected my my playing. Actually on the contrary, I like to play pretty fast and if I take breaks from lifting my speed and dexterity suffer a little bit.

Them there stupid looking guitars will be making money 20 or so years from now! Look at the early USA Hamer prices!
Heck look at a 57 through early 70's fender and Gibson prices.
With all them Tiger stripe and Acid green Kramers, ESP's and stuff that was floating around in the 80's what happened to them??
George looks like Arnold with a Tele glad to see he is in good health.

Sorry but I disagree with your assessment regarding performance enhancing drugs. I met George on two occasions and he had all the tell-tale signs of juicing...severe bacne, holding lots of water in his face, and red face. He got pretty massive at one point, and as you can see from older pictures it wasn't just his bodytype. That's my opinion. I think this one walks and quacks like a duck, and it's most likely a duck.

Interesting.Id like to hear what he actually does with one.Anyone know of anything??????

I always repected him as a player.Listened to Dokken back in the day just to hear him play.I always liked him better as a rhythm player tho.I could never handle Don DOkkens voice. On the recordings,it always sounded to me like every other word he sang was punched in.

I looked into him recently saw that he was giving lessons for money by way of the internet.

He and I share the same nickname,Mr Scary.

Long live the pointy headstock guitars.

Mike

That's not a tele, the head stock clearly says ESP (haha).

George Lynch is one of the reasons that I started playing guitar in the first place. It wasn't EVH or Page, it was George Lynch for me. Hell, I even had hair kind of like his (another hahaha).

Ok, now you all know my deepest, darkest secret.......Hope you're happy.

People were ashamed of them and hid them in the basement...

Hey, no need to be sorry about disagreeing, there's no way either of us could know one way or the other right? He may very well have done them, I've no idea. But as a former powerlifter, I've known my share of "juiceheads," and if that's all he got out of it, it wasn't worth it LOL! He's in good shape but I would definitely not call him huge, I know plenty of natural guys that are bigger than that. But I have'nt seen pictures of him bigger so who knows... and if he had acne and bloat etc. at that time you are probably right!

I've been reading some articles on Lynch online and he has been on the healthy living kick for quite some time, so it seems as though the guns are the result of hard work. Good for him-- he's married now (he got married this year, the same day I did! 5-6-06), has been touring with the George Lynch Band doing Dokken, Lynch Mob and new stuff, and has an online Guitar Dojo to teach budding new guitarists. Sounds like a pretty good life to me!

That's funny about the ESP sticker, I read somewhere that when Dokken was doing the video for Dream Warriors that George showed up with his Mr. Scary guitar, the Skull and Bones guitar made by JFrog, The ESP rep wouldn't let him use it until they put an ESP sticker on the headstock.

He's been a tele fan for awhile now, there was a '68 tele that had been refinished green w/a maple cap neck on ebay a year ago that was supposed to have been in his collection for several years and used on some recordings, who knows for sure.

For me it was Lynch and DiMartini. I've actually gone back and purchased some old Ratt and Dokken through iTunes. No crap. Lynch had some amazing tone for the era.

I sold my first Marshall Jubillee and bought my Ampeg SS-140C solid-state amp because it was pretty close to the "In My Dreams" tone.

Always wanted an ESP Kamikaze, but the maple body turned me off...
