Driving along, saw an estate sale. Needed to stretch my legs, decided to pull over and give it a walk thru.

Got to a backroom, filled with Jazz stuff. Pretty cool. Lots of LP's, etc.
I love jazz, my brain just isn't wired right for it. I've tried. Believe me, I've tried.

Anyhoo, there she was sitting all alone in a corner. An AS93. Tiny little amp. A few Jazz Guitar beginner books. I plugged it in, no sound.
The Amp was working though. Guessed that the jack was gooched.

Sometimes my heart gets the better of me. If I know that someone is under priced on something I'll let them know. Like if a wife has no idea what her husband's stuff is really worth.

Sometimes however, if I get a vibe that Google is your friend... Well...
Seemed to me that these people just wanted their parents house emptied.
I figured that I would be more than happy to help them get on their way.

Price tag said $150. I offered $125 since it was broken.
Offer was accepted. Left $25 to hold it while I went up the street to the bank.
Went back and picked it up.

Posting from my I-Pad. Will put some pics up later.
Feel like this girl has found a good home.

    FG

Got my ‘52 Ri that way, Coming back from the shore, big house; indoor pool, two multi car garages w/ lifts etc. Sale was on CL
“Fender Style Electric Guitar” listed amongst other hh items..

Empty music room, w/ the Tele in a corner, on a MF type tweed case.

“Dealer came by and took everything else, said that was a fake.. too banged up”

I told them what it was, and they shrugged, “how bout $100? it’s pretty gross, dad always took that to the bar..” I asked what they had gotten for the “ Good Stuff” “20k give or take”, I passed over the Benji.

“ Oh here the guy didn’ t want
    the thing you play thru....”
She opens a closet and pulls out...... a Squier Champ 15! “
I guess the tone really is in the fingers.

    Thanks Guys,
Honestly us guitar players are a different breed.

Researching the Jazz forums, reading how much discussion there is about these guitars, and the pickups. Holy Holy,
I learned a lot, yet also realized that I already know a lot in regard to playing Metal vs Classic vs Blues vs Jazz tones.

These guitars have the infamous Super 58s, but not the Super 58s made in Japan, and not the Super 58 Customs which are ceramics. Then there are the Made In Japan Super 58s, from the old days. Geez Louise. Jazz guys are pretty deep regarding tone chasing.

I played these PUPS. Meh, could make them sound good. But I have a GFS Fat Pat neck PUP. It'll work great in this Jazz Box.
I have a high output Dimarzio ceramic blade PUP that will work in the bridge. Crank the neck PUP for woman tone, dial back the ceramic for clean tone all with the same amp setting.

Should be able to cover any style of music.

Cleaned all of the DNA off of her.
Did a fret level and crown.
Just needed a touch up, yet too much for just a spot level.

Installed some gold Grovers that I've had for years.

Gonna just splice in the PUPS for now.
Want to get back to the Firefly Semi Hollow mod.

You could make some great comparisons between the two models (Firefly/Ibanez) now that you have both. I imagine the net would find that of great value to hear!

Nice score. Every estate sale I've ever been to has stuff at more than double the price it should be.

I do, ( the Champ 15 too) i"m in the process of renovating the wife's childhood home so I'm there for a week or two, the Tele is at the old place; I can snap a few next time I'm back. Imagine a CS Heavy Relic Blackguard, with a poly top coat that has worn thru and been over sprayed, ciggy burn in the usual place, and all the usual neck wear + rust for a 25 year old guitar that was gigged hard and put away wet. There was so much rust & gunk on the bridge I had to scrape it off to read the s/n to look it up on my phone ( its a'92) Probably why the buyer though it was a partscaster.

That was a great find. I have the slightly downscale AS73 version of that guitar. Super comfortable to play, but it needs its own amp settings; what works for my other humbucker-equipped guitars sounds too somber with the Ibanez Classic Elite pickups in that semihollow (the same pickups in an Ibanez full hollowbody are notably brighter; go figure). As you say, a small book could be written about the Ibanez Super 58 pickups, and half the research could be done over at the Jazz Guitar Online forum.
